The storytelling potential of two women, one of color, sans men, landing in different places thru time! The Doctor not having men to say "no for real, she's the boss" but just doing Doctor shit, and people falling in line. Yaz being authoritative and badass. Give us 😭

Meant to post this one, too. Yaz has so much potential to be an amazing *solo companion* to Thirteen, but the show needs to give her space to step into that role. We're ready for and we deserve an all-female TARDIS!!!

"Leo, a Black man, having a Dalek, a creature known for their obsession with purity and supremacy, take ownership of his body and autonomy is a choice. The Dalek killing Leo before ending his possession when he did not have to is a choice."

We always feel the need to have immediate reactions, but I appreciate thoughtful reflections after the fact 💙

"What matters is that writers, producers, and directors need to start thinking about these things intentionally. They should not continue casting without careful consideration about prioritizing white characters’ survival while killing off their diverse characters."

Okay, so this is a really important point. I still love this show. It's given me my whole life, no exaggeration. When you love something this much though, you want greatness for it. And IMO, they still have a ways to go to reach greatness in the representation of BIPOC.

This is an excellent point and one of my fears. I believe she should get an entire run as the Doctor but I would hope for more Black and female writers, directors, and other people with decision making power to be brought in. Chibnall for sure does NOT have the range.

Colorblind casting is fake. It doesn't exist. You can't remove the prejudices associated with people, unless you create a magical world where race doesn't exist, a la Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Otherwise... race (gender presentation, weight, etc) matters.

I talked about this last year. It's not a new "woke" issue. Some of us are TIRED. Tired of us seeing a Black person on-screen and knowing they almost certainly won't survive. Ask anyone, when the episode started most of us said "welp"

To be clear, nothing wrong with growing up with the show. But growing up is the point.

The shit came back in the TWENTY THOUSANDS, after Black, queer, disabled, etc people were invented. It has been on for over 15 years now, which is older than some of its fans. There are no excuses for holding onto last centuries' standards. We know better, and should do better.

Y'all the same people who will constantly remind us that you have been watching Doctor Who since you were a kid, which you think means you have authority over what IS but which tells me you are used to/comfortable with/accepting of racist, sexist writing 🤷🏾‍♀️

YOU not caring, YOU not noticing, YOU not being taken out of the story, doesn't negate the issue.

It's wild that y'all only recognize racism when it's named (and when the Doctor "attacks it head on" lmfao), but not when Black characters and other characters of color are unceremoniously killed or otherwise mistreated. You don't se it cause you don't care. Thassit.

Talia talks about something I and others have consistently had issues with in and as expected, people have issues with this peice. Despite the fact that we've been pointing out these problems for several seasons now, and the show continues to repeat the same mistakes.

I know there are companions in other media that are not European but unless otherwise stated, I'm generally talking about the show. The expanded universe is vast and I am but a person with attention issues, so my canon knowledge starts and stops at the series.

ALSO if you were looking for a "daddy" Graham was right there. Capapi was there for three whole seasons. If white men of a certain age are your kink, that's fine, but what we're not gone do is act blike Tosin and Sacha aren't fine as hell 😂 no sir, no ma'am, no them.

It's just not necessary. And the fact that they announced it the way they did tells me they don't value Yaz. They don't believe people would come back unless they assured them a white man would be present. That's who they think this fandom is.
