The Hindutva agenda and the maintenance of the broader “Hindu identity” needs an “other” to combat its inherent caste and class contradictions. Muslims and to some extent Christians in india are used as this Other. Nothing they do or don’t do will change this.

Precisely, the question is how much more should Muslims cede and sacrifice for the majoritarian thugs to leave them alone. twitter.com/___VintageSoul…

It's ridiculous that in 2022, you still have to explain to people that not a single Afghan was responsible for 9/11. I grew up with all this shit. It turned me into a journalist. But nothing has changed.

I think it's right outside gate no. 4 of Delhi University, North campus also. Here's a recently uploaded video from Gwyer hall, DU. youtu.be/OQjmd1UVnaE Muslims and Christians never object to these ‘cultural’ events because no place for religion in ‘Vidya ka mandir.’

No, ceding even an inch of dignity and freedom at this time is stupid and counterproductive. If the experience of the past seven years has taught Muslims anything is that they need to stand their ground very very firmly. That HELPS.

Or get rid of the lot. Which is always on the table now that the conflict is raised. Girls moving to colleges with suitable uniform or none or being encouraged to give up hijab STILL better than spreading this confrontation at a time when there are already calls to genocide.

It’s also (by design I imagine) very hard for other communities to understand - it’s easy for those not personally invested to say “oh but why are you turning small things into big issues”

It counts on a lack of public stamina to resist every single thing and in that exhaustion they move the lines tighter and tighter around the community. It’s truly cruel and horrible.

The problem for minorities with the current state of affairs is not that people won’t resist or fight but that the govt makes every small everyday part of their existence into something to fight for - dressing, attending class, travelling by train, selling vegetables. +

Important report on the prevalence of bonded labour of Adivasi migrant workers in Belgaum, Karnataka. While these workers were rescued and have returned home since, there are others who still continue to be exploited in the sugarcane fields and factories of North Karnataka.

To wrap this up, don’t raise your kids on some idyllic farm in Nashik. They’ll grow up to a)believe author who thinks publication of his book will improve his financial situation and b) real estate guy who says his financing is all tied up.

This is a really important point for anyone planning to watch Gehraiyaan - there aren’t any noticeable trigger warnings etc, so please keep yourself away from this if you need to.

Does anyone else find it weird that right wing supporters who until last month were cheering attacks on Christian educational institutions and accusing them of “conversion” are suddenly all in praise of their “strict” dress codes?

Hijabs in classrooms will ruin the atmosphere of the class but flag marches by the police in full riot gear are perfectly normal. 🤷🏽‍♀️

This is one of the most highly educated districts in Karnataka - and now the full might of the state has to be displayed just to reopen colleges. People who think displays of certain clothes are offensive to education don’t have a problem with displays of mass state might?

Still remember UR Rai’s consti course where he would repeatedly point out that under the plain text of the Constitution, a governor can do insane things.

Entirely weird - also a general reminder that the powers of the Governor under the constitution are extraordinarily vague and excessive.

I wonder if the MEA misses the quiet old MMS days where international opinion was manipulated quietly. All this constant trumpet blowing affirmation must get exhausting.
