The plan was to occupy around 15-20 peaks. Having crossed over into unoccupied areas, the excited young soldiers expanded their presence. It was a classic snowballing into mission creep, ending up in occupation of 120 peaks. They were now in a logistical stretch, making themselves vulnerable to Indian military attacks(HT)

How to revive job growth in the country

First, the government must increase public investment in social services. Second, it should introduce a multi-pronged industrial policy to reverse the poor manufacturing performance since 1991
Between 2004-05 and 2011-12, about five million workers per annum left agriculture for non-farm sector jobs. Among these five million, about four (75%) were youth (15 to 29 years). This was a good news because it tightened the rural labour market, which resulted in real wages rising (it had been stagnant between 1996 and 2004 because of a rising number of workers in agriculture)(REUTERS)

Migrants aren’t streaming into cities, and what this means for urban India

If Indian cities have become successful in turning away migrants, we should see that as the first sign of their demise, not their dynamism.
According to the Indian government’s own data, surprisingly few rural Indians are relocating to cities. Between 2001 and 2011, net rural-urban migration stood at about 20 million people. In China, the only country in the world of comparable size, migration alone swelled the urban population by 177 million in the first decade of the century. In fact, the rate of migration into cities in India has remained essentially stagnant since the 1970s — even after liberalisation unleashed a wave of economic growth.(Getty Images)
