Portals of Sikh shrine Hemkund Sahib closes for winter months

This year over 10,000 pilgrims visited the shrine compared to around 8,500 last year. In 2019, 1.65 lakh pilgrims had visited the shrine.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat to visit Kumaon for three-day event on Friday

The programme will be held on the premises of a private institute in Lamachaur area of Haldwani. Around 2,000 volunteers of the RSS are expected to attend the programme on the first day. Bhagwat will also chair meetings of state-level office-bearers during his stay in Uttarakhand.

Himalayan black bear shot dead by Uttarakhand forest officials in self-defence

Himalayan black bears can be found in and around Himalayan meadows at an elevation of 10,000 to 12,000 feet high. They come down to 5,000-6000 feet in winter months in search of food. The Himalayan black bear has been listed as a vulnerable species under the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.
