Oh my god yes. So much academic writing is a long string of tiny fortresses that requires you to read each sentence multiple times, only to conclude that you must be stupid because you don’t understand it.

one thing I'm trying to get better about from here on out is writing and thinking even less defensively. trying to craft sentences into fortresses is a waste of valuable time and effort. what would you say if you were speaking to someone who's trying to understand you? say that.

The Colorado shooters dad was more concerned that his son might be gay as opposed to you know, slaughtering people
Quote Tweet
The Colorado shooter’s dad on finding out his son murdered people: “They started telling me about the incident, a shooting... And then I go on to find out it’s a gay bar. I got scared, ‘Shit, is he gay?’ And he’s not gay, so I said, phew… I am a conservative Republican.” (@CBS8)

Reminded me: son revealed on w/end that his school career adviser told him (&others) that trades were for 'losers', kids who wouldn't finish school. He stopped going to see him, bc he was sick of being told he MUST go to uni. He's now in a trade and absolutely loving it.

Only a lifetime shiny bum could have said this or written it up. An electrician is a "low risk trade" which will surprise anyone familiar with number of fatalities there are involving electricity for a start. And I'm not sure who keen on an unlicensed plumber doing their work.

Politicians obsess about the ‘tradie’ vote. They should be more worried about the female aged care worker living in the outer suburbs. Its these women that are carrying baseball bats for both major party leaders. They are driving the growth of the ‘other’ vote. More here

I spend the morning actually working (ahem) and come back to Twitter and everyone is in mourning. Expecting it to die any minute. I'm ghibberd on Insta if it does.

Because we failed to plan ahead and book stadiums for a grand final we knew was coming, let’s host it somewhere that is incredibly difficult to get to and the local AFLW fan base is no doubt meagre. That will surely help build the game. Eff me, so over this. EVERY. SEASON.

Listened to this earlier this morning and tbh, we've all been there. Who hasn't wanted to throw shells and silt at an annoying neighbour? (And do listen, it's great).

Researchers have recorded bad tempered octopuses in Jervis Bay, New South Wales chucking shells and silt at each other. It's rare for animals to do this and it's the first time this behaviour has been recorded in octopuses. @pgodfreysmith abc.net.au/radionational/
