Yo La Tengo (often abbreviated as YLT) is an American indie rock band formed in Hoboken, New Jersey, in 1984. Since 1992, the lineup has consisted of Ira Kaplan (guitars, piano, vocals), Georgia Hubley (drums, piano, vocals), and James McNew (bass, vocals). In 2015, original guitarist Dave Schramm rejoined the band and appears on their fourteenth album, Stuff Like That There.
Despite achieving limited mainstream success, Yo La Tengo has been called "the quintessential critics' band" and maintains a strong cult following.
Though they mostly play original material, Yo La Tengo is renowned for its encyclopedic repertoire of cover songs both in live performance and on record.2
Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley formed the band as a husband/wife duo in 1984. They chose the name "Yo La Tengo" (Spanish for "I have it"; or referring to a female-gender object or person, also "I've Got Her") in an effort to avoid any connotations in English. The name came from a baseball anecdote. During the 1962 season, New York Mets center fielder Richie Ashburn and Venezuelan shortstop Elio Chacón found themselves colliding in the outfield. When Ashburn went for a catch, he would scream, "I got it! I got it!" only to run into Chacón, who spoke only Spanish. Ashburn learned to yell, "¡Yo la tengo! ¡Yo la tengo!" instead. In a later game, Ashburn happily saw Chacón backing off. He relaxed, positioned himself to catch the ball, and was instead run over by left fielder Frank Thomas, who understood no Spanish and had missed a team meeting that proposed using the words "¡Yo la tengo!" as a way to avoid outfield collisions. After getting up, Thomas asked Ashburn, "What the hell is a Yellow Tango?".

“The Art” Lyrics
02. La La
She’s spreading poison around
She’s the talk of the town
She makes the rain come down
(Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh)
I’m dying for
her embrace
She’s got me on a chase
I want a taste of
(Mrs. La La, La La, La La)
Why lie, I can’t help
myself usually I'm a smart guy
She’s got me on a chase looking
for her at night
And I can't front she’s driving me crazy
Crawling
on the stage I’ll be your daddy baby
The lights get bright the
whole room gets hazy
And all I see is your curves so wavy
Sit on
my lap talk to me little lady, lady, lady
(Baby)
She’s spreading poison around
She’s the talk of the town
She makes the rain come down
(Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh)
I’m dying for
her embrace
She’s got me on a chase
I want a taste of
(Mrs. La La, La La, La La)
I found another clue
I’m
getting closer to loving you, touching you, holding you
If I get
the chance one night advance
Save the last dance skip all the
romance
This won’t be easy, I don't want no freebee
I’m willing
to pay, little girl don't tease me
Every time I get close she
disappears
I'm on a chase she evaporates in the air
She’s
spreading poison around
She’s the talk of the town
She makes the rain come down
(Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh)
I’m dying for
her embrace
She’s got me on a chase
I want a taste of
(Mrs. La La, La La, La La)
She’s marking on my
spot
(Spot)
She’s got the key to my lock
(Lock, lock, lock)
She's a thief and can’t be stopped
(Stopped)
She's got my heart and I'm on a chase
She’s giving me
all that I want
(Want)
She’s got me on a hunt
(Hunt)
Fox, Found, Fuck
By my zipper she’s pulling me up
(up, up, up)
She’s spreading poison around
She’s the talk of the town
She makes the rain come down
(Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh)
I’m dying for
her embrace
She’s got me on a chase
I want a taste of
(Mrs. La La, La La, La La)
She’s spreading poison around
She’s the talk of the town
She makes the rain come down
(Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh)
I’m dying for
her embrace
She’s got me on a chase
I want a taste of
(Mrs. La La, La La, La La)
La, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la
