Through stunning geometric hand-embroidery, Palestinian American artist Jordan Nassar creates utopic, imaginative visions of his familial homeland. Scenes of rolling hills, plummeting valleys, and winding rivers emerge from repeating Palestinian patterns, which Nassar stitches in muted earth tones or bold primary colors. The artist, who earned his BA at Middlebury College, has exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Princeton University Art Museum, and the Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv, among other institutions. In 2020, he participated in the Asia Society Triennial in New York. Nassar has collaborated with female weavers living in the West Bank, which adds a cross-cultural layer to his work as he considers diaspora and aesthetic ownership.
