19 April 2017 – Police officers called to break-up a party in Perth’s south have been pelted with bottles and bricks.

The officers were called to a home on Murchison Road in Waikiki around 11.25pm on Tuesday night after receiving reports of several men fighting.

It will be alleged as police went to assist one group of people, bottles, bricks and wooden stakes were thrown at them.

Several police cars received minor damage as an out of control gathering was declared.

 

Riot squad officers attended to disperse the crowd, with bricks and other items thrown at their shields.

A 22-year-old Baldivis man has been charged with criminal damage and a 16-year-old Caversham boy will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date for trespassing.

Perth: Woman charged with squirting breastmilk on cop

14 April: A WA woman has appeared in court charged with squirting a policewoman with her breast milk.

Erica Stefanie Leeder, 26, faced Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday accused of assaulting the female officer while she was being strip searched at Rockingham police station.

It has been alleged that while she was undergoing the examination she grabbed her own breast and squirted milk on to the officer’s forehead, arms and clothing.

She was charged with assaulting a police officer and appeared in court on Match 31 where she was refused bail on the grounds she needed to show exceptional circumstances.

Perth: man escaped Serco guard while being deported from airport

8 June: A Vietnamese man who escaped Serco guards at Perth Airport yesterday while he was being deported is still on the run.

An intensive search involving officers from the Australian Federal Police and WA Police from three stations, backed up by the dog squad, failed to locate the man.

The missing detainee, who is not known to be a threat to the public, was described by officials as “an illegal maritime arrival”.

An AFP spokeswoman said the man escaped while under escort in the international departures terminal.

“At about 9.15am local time a Vietnamese national absconded while on escort at the departures check-in area within the Perth International Airport,” he said about 6pm.

“AFP and WA Police were advised and police assisted Serco in the search for the individual. The man has yet to be located.

Perth: Party youths riot in Peppy Grove

27 January: Police in riot gear were called to a party in Peppermint Grove overnight amid reports 500 youths were creating a disturbance.

More than 200 youths pelted police with beer bottles at Manners Hill Park on the Swan River foreshore about 10:00 pm last night.

Officers using riot shields moved in to disperse the crowd. No arrests have been made and no-one was injured.

WA: juveniles trash prison again

30 August: Juvenile detainees who trashed their cells at Hakea Prison for adults in Perth were encouraged by one youth who started the rampage, Corrective Services acting commissioner Heather Harker says.

A dozen teenage offenders were responsible for damage to 10 cells on Thursday night and have been moved to the management unit at Banksia Hill Detention Centre.

More than 70 juveniles were sent to Hakea Prison in January after nearly half the cells at Banksia Hill were trashed during a riot. There are currently 100 juveniles at Hakea and 60 at Banksia Hill.

Ms Harker said one boy caused a disturbance in his cell on Thursday at 7pm (WST) and then encouraged others to damage their cells too.

She said youths in both units were involved in the rampage that lasted about three hours. Damage was caused to shower screens, toilets and sinks, and shelves were also ripped off walls. Continue reading “WA: juveniles trash prison again”

Perth: imprisoned teens trash cells

22 July: Charges may be laid against five juvenile offenders who ran amok at a Perth prison for adults, where they were sent after their usual facility was trashed in a riot.

Five cells at Hakea prison were damaged on Saturday night – the second time since late June the teenagers have damaged their rooms at the facility.

Sinks, toilets, shower areas, shelving and mattresses were all trashed, a Department of Corrective Services spokesman confirmed.

The detainees did not get out of their cells, unlike the riot at the nearby Banksia Hill Detention Centre for juveniles in January that left 108 of the facility’s 240 cells unfit for use and prompted the transfer of the inmates. Continue reading “Perth: imprisoned teens trash cells”

Perth: Vandals deface Liberal Party boats billboard

23 April: Vandals defaced a Liberal Party billboard in Perth just hours after it was unveiled by Opposition Leader Tony Abbott.

The billboard claimed more than 600 “illegal” asylum seeker boats have arrived in Australia since the Labor Party won government.

The number has since been whited out and replaced with a zero.

Also spray-painted on the billboard were the words: “No crime to seek asylum.”

The sign has subsequently been replaced with a previous Liberal Party add.

Perth: riot in juvenile detention centre

January 21: More than 70 juvenile detainees in Perth have been transferred to Hakea adult prison after a riot at the Banksia Hill Detention Centre overnight.

Corrective Services Commissioner, Ian Johnson, says the detainees armed themselves with makeshift weapons after three climbed onto the roof yesterday evening.

“Initially three detainees were not locked in their cells, it was at that time just prior to lockdown,” he said. “They then got on the roof, that’s then escalated and a number of detainees have obviously joined them and at one stage in the evening we about 60 detainees running amok in the centre.”

“No staff were injured and no detainees were; the exception of some young fellow that got a gash to his leg and got stitched up and he’s fine.”

Perth: police pelted with rocks, bottles & flares at out of control Halloween party

28 October: Police were pelted with rocks, bottles and even smoke flares at an out of control party in Perth’s southern suburbs on Saturday night.

Officers from Police Airwing, the Regional Operations Group, mounted section and dog squad were called to the scene to help disperse the unruly crowd some of whom threw rocks, bottles and smoke flares at the officers.

Disturbing footage from the police chopper released this morning clearly shows hordes of youths outside the home where the party was being held. The footage shows dozens of the youths picking up rocks from the ground and hurling them at the officers.The footage also captures the moment a flare is thrown high into the air right in front of the police helicopter.
