Refugee advocates have said he should be Medivaced to Brisbane. Hospital facilities on Nauru are limited.

The health care given to refugees in Australia’s offshore detention regime is poor and that was highlighted this week by a ABC 4 Corners program on the failings that lead to the death of Hamid Khazaei.

In other news the ramifications of yesterday’s PNG Supreme Court decision are unveiling, Immigration Minister Peter Dutton is continuing to show his incompetence, attacking Labour instead of discussing solutions.

Thailand: Yala prison riot brought under control

15 April – Though more than 1,000 inmates were involved in the Yala Prison riot yesterday morning, the situation was brought under control within hours, acting director-general of the Corrections Department Kobkiat Kasivivat said.

The riot stemmed from a fight between two groups of prisons at about 10am. The 10 members of one group hail from Trang and the other from Yala, which is also 10-member strong.

One Trang inmate allegedly stabbed a member of the Yala group in the back with a shank pipe, he said, adding that the situation had been brought into control by noon. Prison officials will move some members of the Trang group to the Songkhla Prison in order to prevent another riot, he added.

Boorloo / Perth: First Nations People lead action for the homeless at WA Parliament

Insurrection News

14.04.16: Boorloo/Perth, The Illegally Occupied Colony Australia – Some people from Matagarup/Heirisson Island led a march and sit in at Western Australia’s Parliament House for the homeless today.

The Noongar Sovereign Tent Embassy has been known as Matagarup Refugee Camp since the government started forced closures of remote communities of First Nations Peoples. It serves as a camp for the people displaced by the genocidal policies of the racist government. Despite the island being a registered Aboriginal Heritage Site the racist cops and council have evicted them and stolen their belongings countless times.

Today’s action was for all homeless people wherever they may live.

Nauru: Refugees in detention call on people in Australia to join their protest action

Insurrection News

letter14.04.16: It is day 26 of the ongoing daily peaceful protest by refugee families in the RPC 3 family compound at the Australian government’s offshore refugee detention camp on Nauru. The refugees are all seeking asylum in Australia and many of them have been waiting for more than two and a half years in hellish conditions for answers from Australian immigration authorities regarding their asylum claims. The protest began on March 20 to coincide with the Palm Sunday “Welcome Refugees” rallies in Australia calling for the closure of  the Australian government’s Nauru and Manus Island offshore refugee detention facilities. Today the protesting refugees on Nauru have written an open letter to the people of Australia (pictured above) calling on them to join their protests. Below is an unedited transcript of that letter.

Melbourne: Police and Protesters Clash Outside Liberal Party Dinner

8 April – Police have used capsicum spray on protesters outside a Liberal Party dinner to mark the 20th anniversary of the election of John Howard’s government.

However, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is suspected to have avoided the skirmish in Melbourne’s Docklands by arriving by boat and entering the back of Shed 14 behind a police line.

About 150 people gathered outside the Central Pier function venue about 6pm on Friday to protest the federal government’s changes to higher education and the treatment of asylum seekers.

Students, unionists and refugee activists held placards and chanted slogans such as “No ifs, no buts, no education cuts.”

The demonstrators scuffled with police, including about 50 uniformed officers, as well as five mounted police and some Australian Federal Police.

The protesters yelled “scum” and “shame” at guests and jostled them as they arrived at the venue and were ushered around the rear of the venue by security guards.

Some of the building’s windows were broken, with officers using pepper spray on about 20 people, including an ABC cameraman.
