Ladies, gentlemen, and summoning animals of /r/Naruto, I hope you all got the memes out of your system yesterday (I know I certainly did) because it's time to discuss new rules!
Right off the bat I'd like to point out that these are proposed/tentative changes. If a certain rule change feels unclear or unfair, please do not hesitate to let us know as we're open to feedback and aren't opposed to changing or removing a rule if it is too unpopular. We feel these changes are fair and reasonable, so without further ado:
I will highlight the larger changes here and then link to the full list of rules at the end. This is because a lot of the changes are minor or just the same rules rewritten to be more clear.
edit: there's a TL;DR at the bottom if you don't care to read our rationale on the changes!
The first major change is regarding fanart and cosplays:
OLD RULE:
Fanart and cosplay should be sourced with artist name in the title or comments. Please try to find the original artist using both of the following tools:
saucenao.com
Google Images
Always try to credit the original artist and link back to them either in the title and link of your post or in the comments. If you edited someone else's work, you still need to give the original artist credit.
NEW RULE:
All Fanart and cosplay must be linked directly to the artists page
If the art in question is original content (OC) re-hosting on reddit/imgur etc. is fine.
If the website with the art is hard to view on any occasion (such is often the case with twitter), please post an imgur mirror within the body of a text post along side the source to the artists page. Observe this post on /r/anime as an example of what it would look like.
the following websites are not valid sources: weheartit.com, pinterest.com, zerochan.net, dailyanimeart.com, alphacoders.com, any website with "wallpaper" in it, etc... these are aggregate sites which only have re posted artwork.
- The original source is almost always on pixiv.net, deviantart.com, twitter, instagram, tumblr or artstation.
Here are some tools to help you find the original artist:
If you edited someone else's work, you still need to give the original artist credit.
Limit yourself to one fanart submission within approximately 24 hours. A little flexibility will be allowed, especially with original content or official art unless it's been posted in a noticeably spam-like way.
Do not post art from the same user multiple days in a row. Your account could be viewed as a promotional account and possibly banned. If you'd like to show people someone's art, post an album either as a link post or in the comments.
RATIONALE:
The old system required the original poster (OP) to post the source of the art in the form of a comment, however, this comment often got buried under other comments as it's less likely to be upvoted over a witty joke or insightful observation of the piece. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do from a moderation stand point to sticky the source comment or embed the source somewhere else on the post, reddit simply doesn't have the means to do that.
Furthermore, on top of the comment being buried we feel that most users would not click on the source comment posted by the OP. The most important thing when it comes to posting art on deviantart/pixiv etc. is page views. Page views lead to more followers, which leads to higher rankings on the site which in turn means more support for the artists- some of which do this full time. By linking directly to the artist's work rather than re-hosting on reddit/imgur they will see abundantly more traffic.
The next change is along the same vein of supporting the content creators:
OLD RULE:
There was none
NEW RULE:
Support the creators and rights holders!
/r/Naruto does not endorse any sort of third party that is profiting off of a copyright infringement. Please avoid linking to illegal third-party sites and encourage other users to search for legal alternatives for finding Naruto and Boruto content.
/r/Naruto is not a platform for selling/buying/promoting unlicensed merchandise and any links or mentions of said material will be will removed unless they are being sold under a creative license.
RATIONALE:
We get a lot of new users asking for places to watch either because Netflix & Hulu only carry a limited number of episodes or they don't know where to start as it's a pretty daunting task. We would kindly ask you to refrain from linking them to kissanime.com/9anime.to etc. You will not be penalized or reprimanded for linking to illegal sites but please understand it is frowned upon and discouraged, because aside from those sites being loaded with intrusive pop-ups and malware, they make huge profits via a copyright infringement. The anime industry sees 0% of the funds produced by these illegal sites.
If you absolutely must make use of an illegal site, as in there are no legal alternatives available for you, we ask that you please do not share or encourage others to do the same. As a side note, if you feel the urge, there are other ways to support the industry such the Animator Dormitory Project or buying Merch/DVD releases, for example.
OLD RULE:
- No separate posts about the latest release for 24 hours. Keep anything related to the latest release within the designated megathread.
NEW 24 HOUR RULE:
No gif, video or image posts relating to the events of the latest release (episode or chapter) for 24 hours after it airs; self/text posts are still fine as long as there is quality analysis accompanied with them.
Please share any gifs/images pertaining to the most recent release within the designated megathread for the duration of the 24 hours after it has aired.
RATIONALE:
- We understand that the megathreads often have several hundred comments in them and newer stuff tends to get buried or ignored. If you have something worth sharing of quality, such as analysis on the animation team that worked on the latest episode or an analysis/discussion of a certain scene or character for example, that would be deemed acceptable. Ultimately the moderation team will decide what belongs in the megathread and what can stand as it's own post. Of course after 24 hours you're free to post, just remember the spoiler rule.
NEW RULE:
- Boruto episode schedules and episode previews should be posted once per month, and only if accompanied with a translation. Untranslated schedules/previews will be removed.
RATIONALE:
- In the current system we usually get multiple posts each with different translations/speculation. It's difficult to distinguish which one has the best translation/discussion in the comments and it's also unfair to someone who posted it first to get their post removed because another one has a better translation.
We are going to be more strict on this rule:
Limit plain screenshots/gifs/caps of the manga/anime.
- Anyone can post these, so try to put some effort in by adding descriptions and discussion questions with them.
- These will be monitored closely if there is a spike in low-quality submissions. Posts will be more likely to be removed if user history shows a high frequency of low-effort posting.
- Less likely to be removed if there is plenty of discussion going on in the comments.
RATIONALE:
Recently there have been a lot of posts along the lines of: "Does anyone else remember this scene?" and then just a plain shot of the scene in question. This takes next to no effort to post and is somewhat clickbait/circle-jerky in nature. If you would like to post a panel with quality discussion or analysis that is okay and the encouraged way of doing it.
TL;DR edition:
Artists deserve love for their work so please link directly to their page with the art.
Try to seek legal alternatives where possible when viewing or reading Naruto, and encourage others to do so.
You are free to post quality discussion threads within the 24 hours after the latest release if you determine it doesn't belong in the megathread.
Cut back on the circlejerky posts: "DAE remember this scene?"
Any episode and chapter spoilers/previews need to be translated to English before posting.

Thank you for taking the time to read! Feel free to give any constructive criticism, compliments, complaints, etc. Maybe there is something we forgot? Let us know.
Now that we've reached the denouement of the main story for the Naruto series, it's time once again to update the subreddit rules with regards to what needs to be spoiler tagged and what doesn't.
The Last: Naruto the Movie will still be considered spoilers until October 31st.
This means that from the 1st November, you can freely mention The Last Spoilers The content of the movie will also be fair game.
However, OVA/Chapter 700 Spoilers.
Here are some links you can use to watch the movie.
However, I'd encourage ye to purchase the Blu-Rays or DVD's, since they support the series and you get a bunch of bonus content such as the drama CD. Plus the quality's always the best.
After The Last, you need to watch the OVA (Original Video Animation), which adapts the short Hokage inauguration chapter. We'll give you two weeks until 14th November to watch it.
- So from November 15th onwards, you can freely mention OVA Spoilers
Here's the link to watch it with (slightly edgy) subs.
Also it goes without saying that:
The light novels, events in Boruto the Movie, as well as any manga material that hasn't been adapted (Ch 700, Gaiden, Boruto) must still be spoiler tagged until animated.
It would also be helpful to specify what your spoiler tag is covering.
Here's how to tag your spoilers:
E.g.
[Manga Spoiler] (#s "Snape Kills Dumbledore")
[Light Novel Spoiler] (#s "Tenten is Best Girl")
etc...you can replace the text accordingly.
Here's the definitive guide to what order you should be watching/reading Naruto if there's still any confusion:
Anime Watch Order Guide
That'll be it for now. If you have anything you want to add or anything you feel could be changed slightly we may take your suggestion on board.
Welcome our new mods
Our head mod Jaxspider has picked animetheory and irishsaltytuna as our newest moderators - the 2 most positively received applicants in our mod recruitment thread!
Thank you to everyone who applied - please continue to participate in and around our community. You don't have to be a mod to bring your ideas to life or make an impact in the subreddit. Take charge and don't be afraid to send a message our way (the mailbox gets lonely)
Once Fall begins I will likely no longer be active with the janitorial mod duties (stalking /new to enforce the rules and answering modmail) due to life obligations, but I will remain as a background support.
Introductions
animetheory
Hello all, animetheory here to tell a short story. It begins back in 2014 when i started regularly posting on /r/naruto, sadly shippuden ended with chapter 700 :( . From there i went on the BNHA hype train for a while. When FA fell behind with the scanlation of BNHA i founded my own BNHA scanlation group, BNHAspeed. Our typesetting was ruff but it got the job done, it was heavily praised on /r/bokunoheroacademia. When FA caught back up i put BNHAspeed on indefinite hiatus. After that, the golden days of Naruto Slack began with the weekly release of Naruto Gaiden, it was then that i became well-known on /r/naruto.
In Slack (live chatting platform - now moved to Discord) i met many cool folks among them, YP, Sophie, OD, Tuna, & Odie. Sadly the end of Naruto Gaiden spelled RIP for Naruto Slack. With the end of Naruto Gaiden i went onto the Fairy Tail hype train, i started posting weekly FT spoilers on /r/fairytail. There i met a cool guy named Spidey, the current head-mod of /r/fairytail. We created /r/fairytailplot which i’m the head-mod of. After a while i stopped regularly posting on /r/fairytail though (for reasons).
With the release of the Hiden series of light-novels, i created the Light Novels Wiki on /r/naruto to catalog & index them. Sometime between now and then i created KingVesselScans or MAGIspeed to scanlate Magi when Sense-Scans fell behind. I was the group's raw provider, i also did typesetting & cleaning . Unfortunately Sense-Scans became offended, and not wanting to start a war, i put KingVesselScans on indefinite hiatus. Sometime between now and then i also did typesetting and redrawing for the group scanlating the official colored manga of Naruto.
TL;DR Animetheory did some scanlations (Boku no Hero Academia, Magi, Naruto Digital Colored Comics), takes care of the Light Novels wiki, translated spoilers for Fairy Tail, created /r/FailyTailPlot and often posts news/things of interest on /r/Naruto.
irishsaltytuna
Hey everyone, /u/irishsaltytuna here. Currently I'm procrastinating writing a speech for a wedding in favour of typing out my (Re:)Introduction as new mod. As most people here know, I enjoy using Photoshop to make gifs, edits and whatnot for various series, particularly Naruto. I've also been fairly active on the sub since the main series ended back in 2012.
Naruto wasn't my first anime, nor was it my 'gateway' anime, however, it's the series I've enjoyed watching the most, so much so that I even hunted for all the omake, OVAs, movies and filler episodes. I first got into Naruto back in 2011/12, after watching some of the Ninjabridge episodes.
After bingeing it, I kept up with reviews on MAL and narutoforums before eventually migrating to and lurking on reddit. Eventually after seeing Yonkou encourage lurkers to be more active I decided to start commenting and posting more.
I was active until the Dark Times post-Gaiden when there was no end in sight to the filleryomi and sh**posts and reposts were at an all-time high, then came back after /u/jaxspider's Subreddit Overhaul.
Though I now keep up with a bunch of series, ^(plugging /r/MobPsycho100), Naruto and /r/Naruto are particularly close to me, and I'd like to give back to this community.
I'm studying in medschool currently with four years left, though I should still have a fair amount of time to carry out my mod duties.
よろしくおねがいします!
~ Anyway, let’s hope for a weekly Boruto anime to bring back the hype.

/r/Naruto Rule Changes
We have reviewed and re-written the rules down to 4 main rules and 4 main policies, with the rest being detailed in the rule wiki page. The sidebar is much shorter now!
1. Tag spoilers
No spoilers in titles! Spoiler tag anything beyond the anime. See below for how to tag spoilers.
2. Flair & title your post properly
Title your post so that someone can tell what it is about before opening it.
No 1 worded titles, no clickbait/misleading titles
Fanart should be sourced with artist name in the title. Saucenao or Google Images.
You must add link flair to your post.
Click here for how to flair on mobile.
3. Read the FAQ
Any question answered in the FAQ will be removed.
4. Limit low-effort submissions
No low-effort memes or image macros. Use /r/dankruto
Limit plain screenshots/gifs/caps of the manga/anime.
Policies
Do not repost anything from the top 100 all-time or within the last 3 months. Use the FAQ, Google, the search bar and the Filter next to it to ensure that you are not reposting recent content or already answered questions.
No NSFW content. Use /r/Naruto_Hentai
No Naruto Storm spam. Only news or official information related to the video game(s) are allowed. Everything else goes to /r/NarutoNinjaStorm
Kindly refrain from trolling in the sub.
Details on what changed:
- Rule 5 No Link Submissions of Plain Panels/Scenes is adjusted to recent Reddit changes
- Rule 7 No Low-effort Memes/Image Macros has been combined with Rule 5
Reddit now allows karma for text posts, and Rule 5 was to prevent low-effort submissions by removing the possibility of earning karma.
Because of this Rule 5 is now obsolete but plain panels and scenes posts will still be monitored closely if there is a spike in low-quality submissions. Posts will be more likely to be removed if user history shows a high frequency of low-effort posting, or the subreddit takes a sudden dip in quality.
Low-effort memes and image macros are still banned, but this rule has been combined with the plain panel/scene rule to form the new Rule 4 - Limit low-effort submissions.
- Rule 3 One link submission per day is GONE
It's been several months since this rule was set in place during our anti-shitpost overhaul, and after some review we have decided to remove the restriction entirely. Other rules are sufficient for countering spam and shitposting. POST AWAY
- Reading the FAQ is now an official rule
It was a rule before, but now it's more clear. FAQ will be removed on sight and users redirected to the subreddit FAQ.
PS: The Story FAQ is being reviewed and developed by a new contributor. Thanks /u/LiveTheDream24
The Story FAQ isn't as well-maintained as the FAQ itself so only the truly frequently asked questions will be removed on sight.
New Domain Bans
Automoderator has been configured to remove posts from:
- weheartit
- zerochan
- dailyanimeart
- various other websites that often discredit artwork
Submitters will be notified automatically.
This is to reinforce our existing rules about properly sourcing fanart and reduce the number of low-quality art submissions. Most of you rehost the art on imgur anyway so it should not affect you.
Trusted sources include Deviantart, Pixiv, Artstation, and to some extent Tumblr, Twitter and Instagram. These are the websites that create the art, everything else is a rehost site and often without permission.
As always, /u/source_your_art_bot will remind you to use saucenao.com and google reverse image search to find the original artist. It has also been updated to support the use of Image Search Options, a convenient all-in-one extension that adds quick reverse search options to the context menu.
Remember that you users are the most important 'moderators' to this sub as the first-responders to new content. You are also responsible for keeping this subreddit clean by hitting the report button. This gives some of us a little pop-up on the desktop or a ping on mobile so responses are almost instantaneous (hopefully).
Hall of Fame
Congratulations /u/Turterra for receiving a place in the Hall of Fame! You have been granted a gold username in recognition of your incredible initiative, producing well thought-out Death Battles on a daily basis. People like you keep /r/Naruto great.
Thank you!
It's time for an /r/Naruto SURVEY!
Click here to go to the survey
Brought to you by me with a little help from /u/HokageEzio :D
This will run for until we have enough responses to get a good idea of the userbase. A few thousand responses by the end, hopefully.
2014 40K Survey RESULTS
It's been 2 whole years since we did this survey, can you believe it? Our original survey & infographic maker /u/MitchB3 was kind enough to dig up the data for me on request and now it's finally here.
Total Number of Responses: 4450
Context: The current manga chapter was chapter 673 - We Will! at the time of the 40K survey on April 20th (4/20).

☆゚.・。゚ 70,000!!! ٩(ˊᗜˋ)و
We've reached a big milestone!
r/Naruto turned 7 years old this past March. We all know how significant this number has been throughout the Naruto series. It's as if by some divine prophecy that we hit 70,000 subscribers the same year, and begin a new era with the serialization of Boruto in the spring!
I wanted to celebrate this special occasion with a look back on our own community's long evolution alongside the heroes we've followed for over a decade. As a subreddit that has been around almost since the dawn of user-creatable subreddits, I thought it would be an interesting challenge to recover its roots and explore the path we walked to get to the present.
The idea sparked this project I've been working on bit by bit over the last month, to find all of our remarkable creations and people that have been long forgotten - all of our banners, milestones, leaders, moments where the community came together for great things, and even times when the subreddit took a turn for the worse.
The timeline is a collection of the subreddit's highlights over the last 7 years through a series of events gathered into tables organized by date, and multiple interviews with various users who have made an impact in our history. It's a somewhat long read (7 years after all), so I encourage you to grab some popcorn, sit back, and dive into the history of /r/Naruto. It's my hope that others will find this enjoyable.
WARNING: SPOILERS UP TO CHAPTER 700
The Timeline of r/Naruto
For those who don't care or think it's too long to read right now, have a look at our new banner compilation album instead:
Banners of r/Naruto
There might (probably) be a few missing, but most of the banners we've ever had is in this album. A lot of them were made by /u/FlyingGoatee during 2012-2014.
That means: All low effort memes and image macros like those in /r/dankruto are no longer to be seen on this subreddit (RIP). This was proposed x days ago in this post which you are encouraged to read if you wish for details.
Also, please take the time to read the rules and policies whether or not you have already. I cleaned them up and rewrote them in better detail in the last couple of weeks.
Misc Status Updates:
- /r/Naruto SURVEY is steadily in progress. It will gather demographics data, offer you an opportunity to give input to the subreddit, and help us find more ways to prolong and improve the subreddit's livelihood as well as give you all a bit of entertainment. Make sure your voice counts!
- SPRING BREAK is approaching (YAY!) More time to waste on things like making a /r/Naruto survey...
- Free time means new user flairs to be readied, as promised, by the end of April or early May.
- Coupled with misc flair related and general subreddit CSS tweaks (Ex. comment box background, flair selection menu styling, alternative linkflair position on a post)
- I'm passively keeping an eye out for potential moderator candidates as well (it should be pretty obvious who takes initiative and such), active contributors are necessary to bring consistent activities to the subreddit.
- Edit: Remembered I had the idea to document the history of r/naruto itself when I come around to it. We have 7 years of history, it should be an interesting report...
A bit of subreddit log data for the month of March:
Total moderator actions: 2,517
1,221 actions were /u/flair_your_post_bot alone (Heil, mein Führer!) - approximately 70% of all removed unflaired posts were reinstated (good job). This is a rough estimate because sometimes I or other mods manually flair and approve posts that the bot removed.
I've added so much code to Automoderator that it has doubled in size in the last month (from 11,043 characters to 20,462). From adding the new subscriber welcoming message to easing the use of link flairs to various attack, spam, shitposting, and rule infringement prevention measures. Automoderator has done 252 actions in the month of March.
As part of the effort to help make this subreddit recover from the off-season and prepare for the influx of anime and manga activity, from the beginning of April going forwards, all low-effort memes and image macros will be removed. Rage comics too but that's so rare these days that I don't need to mention it.
This should have been a rule long, long ago but we've still a long way ahead! I've created /r/dankruto which will be visible in the sidebar so I encourage everyone who values their memes to subscribe and contribute over there. This is the same rule that our neighbour /r/OnePiece has held for the last 3 years without issue.
An example of an exception is redrawing memes into naruto characters like this is fine, as it clearly shows some level of effort. Memes born from inside jokes within the Naruto fandom are also fine.
Now BEFORE you even possibly think of harvesting my organs with a rusty chainsaw, I want you all to read why this is so important, more important than to leave it up to the community to vote. I'd like to thank /u/libertas for putting all of my thoughts into words 4 years ago in this extensive comment:
Having witnessed, as the head moderator of /r/OnePunchMan, a sub go from mere hundreds to 40,000 subscribers over the span of the last several months, I can assure you that the stifling of high-effort content by the casual quick-fix voter is a legitimate issue, and it cannot be controlled in the long term without moderator action. Kishimoto left us with the promise of a 'New Era Opening Project'; let's also move into the next chapter of /r/Naruto with a brighter future. Thank you to all of you for staying with the community this far! Please stay tuned for future updates.
Edit (other changes since the last overhaul update): Just a note as well, I've
- coded the bot so that it auto-removes the majority of Storm posts with certain exceptions for news and sends a notice message regarding /r/NarutoNinjaStorm
- Soon, I'm getting a bot to do auto-reminders for unsourced fanart
- and helping ricardo with new css styling and link flairs!
- Entire batch of new user flairs promised for end of April/early May
- Trying to guide Ezio on how to slaughter children mercilessly (for an over-hundred-year-old hokage, Ezio is a softie)
- Constantly trying to improve automod-->that reminds me I gotta try comment-based auto-reports (the idea is that if someone mentions that the post is not spoiler tagged and it is indeed not spoiler tagged then it'll go to the modqueue automagically)
- General survey is still on my internal suggestions list
Alrighty, let's see how this goes. People wanted to see a new banner that focused less on the war, so the mod team thinks it would be best to open it up to you all. In celebration of the Itachi Shinden adaptation, the theme will be the life of Itachi Uchiha.
Theme: The Life and Death of Itachi Uchiha
Make it a tribute to him as a character
Cover everything about the character
Full color; 3960 px by 250 px
Contest ends on March 15th
Rules:
Follow the rules of the subreddit. Nobody has a problem with your Itachi hentai, just keep it to yourself. This is a representation of the subreddit, it's one of the first things people visiting would see. It'd be best to treat it as such.
Make Itachi the main focus. Sasuke is obviously an important part of Itachi's story, but make sure it is in moderation if you put him, since Itachi Shinden focuses majorly on Itachi (Shisui would probably make more sense, but don't let me compromise your art direction, just make sure it sticks to the theme)
Every portion of Itachi's life is fair game besides novel spoilers. Basically everything from the manga can be used, but don't ruin it for people who haven't read it yet.
Edit - I forgot to mention, remember that the banner would be scrolling for most people. Make sure to note if that changes your design.
Phase TWO
Welcome to Phase TWO of the /r/Naruto subreddit's complete overhaul. Nineteen days ago I announced that this subreddit would be going through a complete overhaul. Ten days ago I started Phase ONE with revamping the of the New Rules, Penalties & Link Flair automation. Today is the start of Phase TWO.
Community banner contest
As you know I'm looking for a skilled photoshop user who can make custom naruto banners for us on a monthly basis. Maybe even custom sidebar pics and other images. This contest is to find that person. Winning the contest does not guarantee modship. Ezio will be in charge of the banner contest. Expect his post in a few days.
Here is the official post to the banner contest! GO! GO! GO!
Welcome our new Mods.
Please welcome our two newest mods to the team. Sophie is a jack of trades & Ezio is learning the ropes so be gentle with him. Here are their proper self introductions.
/u/theothersophie
My name is Sophie. I like my shounen, my /r/aww, fanart, chatting and doing CSS. Like many others, I grew up reading and watching Naruto grow up. As a newbie redditor in 2014, I posted and commented on /r/Naruto daily; half my current amount of link+comment karma still originates from this sub.
When the sub began dying after the end of the manga, I made a small effort to occupy redditors by starting ‘Sketchy Saturday’ in July of 2015 where users could share their shitty to great notebook/serious sketches from week to week. It lasted about 5 months with the help of my friend /u/fuinjutsumaster and died about two months ago, basically. I also organized a fun livestream for the Last: Naruto the Movie when the 1080p Blu-Ray released online for some friends and the subreddit to watch together, and it’s something I’d like to do for Boruto as well; perhaps also when we rewatch the series one day.
In terms of past mod experience, I’ve carefully nurtured the /r/OnePunchMan subreddit since it was under 1,000 subscribers (it’s now about 40,000) for the last 11 months, as the leading/head moderator there since all the other top mods were (and still are) dead. I did just about all of the graphic design and rules there and generally help organize contests, write survey questions, and flairs, besides all of the other standard mod duties.
I applied for modship here in hopes of gradually making some progressive revival. Over the next few months, I’m hoping to work actively with a team of fresh, new and driven mods, gather all the suggestions you guys can offer, and generally make the subreddit more fun with activities and various tweaks and updates as often as I can.
/u/HokageEzio
Alright, so the majority of my time is spent in school or on homework. I'm a high school student currently in my last semester of school and I'm waiting to hear back from colleges like most people in my position. I'm planning to go on to study either biology, biomedical engineering, or mechanical engineering, and I want to use that to become a heart surgeon (in which case I will be dead after I'm in college longer than One Piece will go on). But who cares about real life? I got into Naruto about 2 years ago after watching a youtube named "Slyfoxhound" play through the story mode for Storm 3, and it was specifically the Naruto vs Sasuke fight that made me want to get back into it after my Toonami days. Fucking pissed that it wasn't even real, but it is what it is. Been a fan of the series since (not counting toonami when it just seemed like a normal cartoon), and it got me into a bunch of other anime in general that I would have never watched without this series.
Mod retirements
/u/FlyingGoatee
...had designed the banner for several subreddits such as /r/shingekinokyojin, /r/naruto, /r/rosariovampire, and /r/spiceandwolf. FlyingGoatee was nicknamed as FG. Current status is AWOL status. If you spot him in the wild don't scare him off. He is a gentle creature of the night. Slowly walk away facing him without making a noise. Naruto mod for 3 years since Feb 14 2013.
/u/AryAry
...was in charge of a few weekly threads (Art Sunday and the Anime discussion) as well as some miscellaneous threads (/r/naruto surveys). Ary also has a beautiful luscious beard and is now a married man with real world responsibilities. He is currently on a journey to make the most beautiful bearded baby in world. Naruto mod for almost 3 years since Apr 19 2013.
/u/OrganicDinosaur
...was our amazing translation goddess. Now a med student in training. OD came to us as a blessing in the night. She single handedly translated tons of light novels. She was our lifesaver. Now she is training to save lives in real life. She truly is following the footsteps of 5th Hokage and Sakura. Naruto mod for a year since Feb 14 2015.
I really can't express how grateful I am for all the hard work they've done in the past. I wish them all the best. If they are even half as passionate in real life as they were as mods, nothing will stop them from succeeding with their life goals.
Updated wiki
Over the course of a week, Sophie and I have completely revamped the WIKI. From top to bottom. Its been organized and expanded 10 fold. I'm so proud to say that you can actually find what you're looking for in there.
The only thing we need help with is with the FAQ. It has most of the basics, but we want to populate it with more Q&As. So if you know a good Question/Answer, mention it in this thread. And we'll add it to the FAQ!
CSS Refresh
I wanted to also mention that, Rick & Sophie are working on refreshing a lot of CSS related things. From the overall color scheme, to color coding the link flairs so they aren't all the same orange color. And many more goodies down the line.
Feedback
As always let me know what you think. Be it a suggestion, thought, idea, constructive criticism, something we should add, something we should change, something we should not add or remove. Now is the time. Try to remain civil. In the past I have always giving user opinions a fair shake and today is no different. So speak up, let your voice be heard.
Misc Info
- Sophie is considering doing a full fledged survey.
- Sophie also wants to ban all memes. Please don't kill her.
- Ezio is very new to modding, so be patient with him.
- Did you know yesterday was Poing Bonanza 2016?
I've been commenting around but to make sure it has proper visibility I'm making a post to make it clear what's changed. I'm working as much as I can to make everything less stressful for mods and users both.
- Users will no longer be banned for forgetting link flair. The process is completely automated by /u/flair_your_post_bot. Here is an example of what will happen if you do not flair your post:
/r/Naruto requires you to flair your post! This post has been automatically removed but will be reapproved (and this comment deleted) once flair has been added.
To add flair to your post, open it and click the button labelled
flair
beneath your title. From the menu, select the most appropriate category, and then hitsave
. You do not need to delete or resubmit your post!Don't blame me, I'm just a bot from radd.it.
This message will be updated with instructions for mobile users as soon as the bot creator can get back to me. Putting the appropriate keywords in brackets in your title is also an easy way to auto-flair your post.
- All first time posters receive an information welcome message as follows:
Hi and welcome to /r/Naruto! Please take a moment to read the subreddit rules in our sidebar as well as our very important wiki for answers to many questions you might have about the series and the subreddit!
You're welcome to post and comment as you would anywhere else, just please follow the reddit guidelines and keep our own simple rules in mind. We hope you participate often and spread the manga and anime to others. Have fun!
(Note: Not a new user? If you're receiving this message more than once, you may have accidentally/purposely removed your user flair. Please choose an flair by clicking "edit" in the "show flair" box in the sidebar of the subreddit to indicate that you are not a new member, or, message the moderators. Thanks!)
New users will be marked with the uzumaki clan symbol as default. This WILL catch old users in the net because automod does not distinguish between new subscribers and old subscribers, but you should only receive the message ONCE unless you manually remove your flair. You can pick a different flair whenever you want.
- Rules will be made as easily accessible and visible as possible. A new animation has been added to the "summon a post" button for that purpose along with the welcoming message. Links are available in the sidebar. Alien Blue users can see the sidebar by pressing the blue dot in the top right once they're on the subreddit and selecting "sidebar".
I've only been a moderator for 2 days so I cannot make changes to the rules as I see fit, but I try my best to clearly communicate with jax and we will solve these problems together.
I'll properly introduce myself a little here too. My prior experience is as head mod of /r/OnePunchMan for the last year (you could say i'm a jack-of-all-trades, I do everything from automod, css, photoshop to flairing and spam checking with my other fellow mods there), I'm pretty lenient but everything is well organized over there and it's settled down since the anime ended. I haven't been active in /r/Naruto since fillers started but I have 7,000+ comment and 7,000+ link karma in this sub from when the manga was still going.
Also please be patient with new features and updates, I'm only one person and I have many real life responsibilities to get through but I want the same things you do.
Phase ONE
Welcome to Phase ONE of the /r/Naruto subreddit's complete overhaul. Nine days ago I announced that this subreddit will be going through an overhaul. I wanted to let that announcement sink in before I actually started it. Now its been enough time so Phase ONE has begun with a set of New Rules, New Penalties & Link Flair.
Comprehensive list of New Rules & sub-rules.
Starting TODAY. If you break any of these new rules or sub-rules you will be subject to a 7 day temp ban or longer. So before you make a post, read them for your own sake. Asking to get unbanned because you didn't read the rules will be ignored.
Here are the comprehensive list of the New Penalties.
A Link Flair assigns what category your post falls under. Its like tagging your post. Its to help organize the subreddit. You must select a link flair for your post after making it. If you don't assign a link flair, your post will be removed and a message will be sent to remind you to set a link flair.
For mobile users
You can set your Link Flair simply by writing a comment in the comment section of your post:
(flairnamehere)
Don't forget the (curve brackets.) Click to see example
A bot will instantly remove the comment and set the link flair for your post.
Being on mobile is no longer an excuse for not following the rules.
Furthermore, the mods will no longer be lenient regarding the new rules. Every single post must be link flaired. If your post does not have a link flair by the time a mod checks your post, your post will be removed and you will face a minimum of a 7 day temp ban.
Here are the comprehensive list of Link Flairs
In this thread you can discuss / give feedback / ask questions regarding the New Rules, New Penalties & Link Flair enforcement.
All mod applicantions still go into the previous thread, found here. I am going to put a pause on finding new mods for the time being. I will begin looking in a month or so. I want the userbase to get accustomed to the new strict rules... this includes potential new mods.
LINK FLAIR UPDATE
Thanks to /u/theothersophie, our newest mod team member, we have added a bot to automatically send users a message to assign link flair. Users will no longer be temp banned for this. For the full details go here.
UNBANNED For Link Flair
Since the addition of the link flair bots, user don't need to get banned. So All previous temp bans for not setting up link flair have been lifted. Around 25 users have had their temp ban lifted.
