This is likely the last Roseate Tern chick I’ve ringed this year. I put a special ring on its right leg enabling ring reading by scope. The parents chose to nest in a wall, so that there’s plenty of shelter for the chick. Ringing + pics under BTO/NPWS licence

Some of the wildlife we saw in East Coast Nature Reserve, Wicklow today. Watching the dragonflies dart about, and noticing the sparkle of the sun on their wings was mesmerising. Beautiful.

Siskin Garden CES 10 today. A disappointing session with just 33 birds of 12 species. A female Blackcap ringed as an adult in 2019 was notable, but highlight was a Collared Dove. One of 4 caught here this year, but the first in a mist net

The terns are getting ready to leave us after what seems to have been a superb breeding season (at least for the Roseates!). The island has gone noticeably quieter, it’s also possible to walk around without a hat.

A magnificent view of the brilliant Harpers Island () on the way out of Cork earlier. It's looking awesome from above & clearly the birds agree. Such a great project. Check out their website:

Our team were kept busy ringing chicks this year, given how successful a year it's been. We've also stepped our monitoring of Kittiwakes through colour-ringing and tracking technology. See below for more! All Grown Up and Ready to Ring
