Support Vets Fighting US War Machine in Ireland

Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, the Pentagon has quietly turned the civilian airport in Shannon, Ireland, into a major hub for some 3 million troops and their weapons en route to "forever wars" in the Middle East.

The Irish peace movement has long protested this violation of Ireland's official neutrality.  Last year they asked members of Veterans For Peace in the U.S. to help dramatize the issue.

In March of this year, a VFP delegation traveled to Ireland and on St. Patrick's Day, two of them were arrested for walking onto the airfield with a banner stating, "Respect Irish Neutrality.  U.S. War Machine Out of Shannon Airport. Veterans For Peace."  Ken Mayers and Tarak Kauff were denied bail and spent two weeks in Limmerick Prison before a higher court intervened. However, the Irish government will not let them leave until their trial, which could be several years away.

Their legal expenses are mounting, as well as important costs like food, bus travel in Ireland and phone calls back to their families.  Funds raised earlier for this action are running out and help is needed from people who want to support the international peace movement.  If you'd like to help a pair of U.S. military veterans and the Irish peace movement topple a key outpost of the American Empire entrenched on the Emerald Isle, please donate today.
