In his photography practice, Andrew Prokos focuses on architecture to capture the wonders of the urban environment and its often underappreciated intricacies. In his cityscapes, Prokos’s images draw out the sense of wonder and detail in an urban skyline. In his architectural photographs, for which he is best known, Prokos captures the often overlooked aspects of modern and classical architecture. Prokos uses both medium- and large-format cameras, often employing long exposures to capture rich details and imbue a sense of motion. Prokos’s work feels contemporary, but he follows a long lineage of photographers who set out to capture urban landscapes and architecture, including Berenice Abbott and Edward Weston. Though his work focuses on urban settings, Prokos’s practice recalls the methodology of the great nature photographer Ansel Adams.
