Any person who will distribute five (5) or more absentee ballot applications to persons other than the individual's immediate family must register with and obtain forms from the Town Clerk of the municipality where such forms will be distributed before distributing such forms.

Connecticut absentee ballot rules

You may vote by absentee ballot in Connecticut if:

  • You will be absent from town during all the hours of voting
  • You have an illness which prevents you from voting in person
  • You have a physical disability which prevents you from voting in person
  • You are on active duty within the US military
  • Your religious tenets forbid secular (non-religious) activity on Election Day
  • You are required to perform of duties as a primary, referendum, or election official at a polling place other than your own during all the hours of voting on Election Day

Connecticut absentee ballot directions

  2. Sign and date the form. This is very important!
  3. Return your completed application to your Local Election Office as soon as possible. We'll provide the mailing address for you.
  4. All Local Election Offices will accept mailed or hand-delivered forms. If it's close to the deadline, call and see if your Local Election Office will let you fax or email the application.
  5. Double-check the deadlines and be sure to cast your voted ballot on time to be sure it is counted.

Once you receive your ballot...

  1. Once you receive the ballot, carefully read and follow the instructions.
  2. Sign and date where indicated.
  3. Mail your voted ballot back to the address indicated on the return envelope.
  4. Double-check the deadlines and be sure to cast your voted ballot on time to be sure it is counted.
