Jewelry designer Lucia Massei describes herself as interested in “the perception of a form, more than the definition of a shape.” It’s a preference that’s immediately apparent in each of her surrealistic pieces, which combine hard, aggressive materials with rich pigments and supple contours. Massei’s designs, cartoonishly proportioned and self-consciously “unfinished,” can look like artifacts excavated in outer space. And though alien at first glace, their mottled, organic finishes are familiar to anyone who has spent time in nature.
