On this date in 1982, Nightingales released their second single, "Use Your Loaf". It was backed by "Inside Out" and "Under The Lash". The A side appeared on their debut album, Pigs On Purpose. The two supporting tracks did not but were added to the album as bonus tracks when it was re-released on CD. The Birmingham, England post punk band rose from the ashes of The Prefects, a punk band that included original Nightingales members Robert Lloyd, Paul Apperley, Eamonn Duffy and Joe Crow. Nightingales disbanded in 1986 after three albums and numerous lineup changes. They have reunited and released new material.

On this date in 1981, Flipper released their debut single, "Love Canal". It was backed by "Ha Ha Ha". Neither track appeared on their debut album, Generic Flipper. The San Francisco hardcore punk band was led by fromer Negative Trend frontman Will Shatter. They disbanded in 1987 after two studio albums, some live material and several singles. Will Shatter died of a drug overdose in 1988. They re-formed a few times afterwards and are currently finishing a new album.

The London punk/power pop band recorded four albums as The Boys plus one under their holiday alter-ego, The Yobs, before disbanding in 1982. They were not newcomers to the scene as Matt Dangerfield and Casino Steel were both with London SS along with Mick Jones (The Clash), Tony James (Generation X) and Brian James(The Damned) before forming The Boys. The Boys have been performing live again.

None of the tracks would appear on an album. Lead singer Howard Devoto left the band shortly after its release. Pete Shelley moved to the front and, after a brief time with Garth Davies, brought in Steve Garvey on bass to form the classic lineup which lasted until 1981. The Manchester, England punk band re-formed in 1989. Pete Shelley and Steve Diggle remain from the original lineup. Howard Devoto went on to form Magazine and Luxuria.

The B side was a non-LP track that was added to the album when it was re-released on CD. The Guildford, England band was from the same area as The Jam and were managed by Bruce Foxton of The Jam. The new wave/power pop band called it quits in 1981 after two albums.
