Blurred
About
Category for two-dimensional artworks that include blurs—areas in which images are less distinct—in them. Abstract and figurative paintings and works on paper are included in this category, as are photographs, which constitute the majority of artworks of this description. Artists well known for their blurred imagery are Francis Bacon, Edvard Munch, and Gerhard Richter. Photography is arguably the root of the widespread use of the blur in art (since blurs could not be readily isolated until its invention), and some of its earliest influence could be seen in the works of Impressionists like Claude Monet and Camille Pissarro.
