    In rote Hollywood storytelling, this vague “trauma” is the new “redemption”: a plot crutch, a justification for insisting we should love a protagonist no matter what they do, an imitation of thematic integrity, and an embarrassing simplification of human complexity.

    A thing I need to write but haven't yet cracked is how many shows and movies right now, especially in big franchises, are sprinkling in the vague concept of "trauma" to give stories a facade of narrative depth without actually committing to thinking about how trauma operates.

    we can't even get relatively simple electronics that have been in homes or in daily use by consumers for two decades+ to work consistently but every day a new startup springs up promising they will simplify your life by throwing a bunch of technology at stuff that doesn't need it
