Tony award-winning Broadway star Sutton Foster plays down-on-her-luck Liza Miller, a recently divorced 40-year-old mother who has to support herself and her daughter who is studying in India. after her ex-husband’s gambling addiction left them with nothing.

Desperate to kick-start her life again and get a job in publishing, she is inspired by a chance meeting to lie about her age - and lands a gig as a 26-year old assistant to Diana Trout (Miriam Shor), at the publishing firm Empirical Press. Luckily, it’s rude to ask a young lady’s age, so Liza works in stealth mode, her workmates oblivious to her deceit.

Spanners fly from every direction as Liza desperately tries to fit in amongst the beautiful young things, while also getting entangled in a love triangle between magnetic millennial Josh (Nico Tortorella) and the eager-to-please, easy-on-the-eyes senior editor at Empirical Press Charles Brooks (Peter Hermann).

Other staffers at the publishers include Kelsey Peters (Hillary Duff), a confident and ambitious editor who is actually 26-years-old, and aforementioned Shor in the role of Liza's temperamental boss. Younger’s MVP, however, is the acerbic-tongued Entourage star Debi Mazar, who plays Liza’s best friend and roommate Maggie Amato.
