    Tonight's viewing: The Keep. What a beautiful mess. It's like it's been cobbled together from five different movies. All the elements that made Thief so amazing are dispersed here, but I can't stop watching.

    The beginning of Michael Mann's Thief is so amazing. Rain slicked neon streets, green smog, Tangerine Dream score, vivid blue titles, fetishised drill bits & heist gear. It has this extraordinary, intoxicating shimmer. Hard to believe it's Mann's 1st film

    Tonight's viewing: Halloween III. Haven't seen this misunderstood gem for years. Like Phantasm, it's utterly ludicrous yet seems ripped from the depths of parasomnia. Genuinely unsettling. John Carpenter vibes (score, production) push it over the edge.

    I did two years of Latin in high school. Cannot remember a word of it. Except when I watch The Life of Brian.

    I once was sitting in O’Hare airport reading a book of Latin poetry when a guy looking like a monk walks up to me looking utterly lost and asks “Loquerisne Latine”? (Do you speak Latin?) To which I answer “Ita, possumne te adiuvare?” (Yes, can I help you?.)
