Some 2.28 crore people in Bengal voted for BJP. Do they not have human rights & democratic freedoms? What is happening in W Bengal is an assault on Indian democracy. I am not pleading; I am demanding administrative action to stop the violence. The alternatives are unpalatable.

An appeal to the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court to take suo moto action directing the administration to stop the wave of political recriminations in W Bengal. There is a total breakdown of law & order in the districts & the mobs are having a field day settling scores.

There is a feeling of helplessness when you receive desperate calls from BJP supporters in Tarakeshwar whose houses are being smashed by goons as political retribution. The police have retreated into the thanas & it is free for all. Is there any rule of law & democracy in Bengal?

It is significant that both Mamata Banerjee & the Trinamool Congress leadership are either in denial over the post-poll violence in WBengal or wilfully looking the other way. The unmistakable impression is that the goons are being time until the morning of May 5 to wreak havoc.

Alarming situation in Nanoor (Birbhum district) with more than a thousand Hindu families out in the fields to escape marauding mobs seeking to take it out against BJP supporters. Reports of molestation or worse of women. @AmitShah please rush some security to the area.

It is one thing to win an election, but it is quite another thing to wreak vengeance on the opposing side. I am yet to hear the ruling Trinamool Congress urge its supporters to refrain from violence. BJP workers all over the state are being targeted. This must stop.

I thank the voters of Tarakeshwar for the support they extended to me. I lost narrowly but am thankful to the BJP leadership & workers for all the support. I shall remain engaged in the public life of Bengal. We fought a good fight & raised vital issues that will endure.

Saddened to hear of the death of Soli Sorabjee. A great lawyer, a man of erudition and above all a perfect gentleman, Soli was a pillar of the anti-Congress movement. I remember so many interesting interactions with him. We shall all miss him.

Why are the media pundits who feel that elections are a needless luxury in the time of Covid exactly the same as those who believe that Mamata Banerjee must be re-elected in W. Bengal to save ‘secular’ India? I don’t think the convergence is coincidental.

A BJP delegation comprising @AshwiniVaishnaw @shishirkb & myself called on the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, this evening. We requested him to take all possible steps to ensure a free & fair poll in the city. We also referred to numerous attacks on BJP candidates in the city.

It isn’t surprising @MamataOfficial offers no comfort to the family of Anand Burman who was killed while queueing to vote. He was a Rajbangshi, which isn’t her votebank. Contrast with her high decibel protest against the death of 4 Muslims in a poll fracas incited by her.

With a resounding voter turnout of over 80%, the campaign in Tarakeshwar came to a close. As we await the outcome on May 2, I want to thank all the karyakartas of the local BJP for organising such an effective campaign. It was a pleasure working with the team.
