Nigeria: At Least 83 Killed As Bandits Strike Again in Zamfara
The bandits share their takings with Boko Haram.
[All Africa] Governor Bello Matawalle has expressed his sadness over the unfortunate incidents.

Attacks by suspected bandidos across villages in Zamfara State have left at least 83 persons dead and hundreds of others, including women and kiddies, injured.

Reports on the attacks were given by displaced people, officials and residents of the affected communities.

Most of the attacks, which appeared coordinated, happened on Wednesday in Gusau, Maradun and Bakura local government areas of the troubled North-west state.

PREMIUM TIMES had, the day before the latest attacks, reported apprehension in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area following the killing of 20 people in separate attacks by rival groups in the area.

The sole administrator of Bakura local government , Aminu Suleiman, told news hounds that over 30 people were killed in attacks in Bakura and Maradun.

Mr Suleiman, however, said the deaths were recorded over days of reprisal attacks between members of outlawed vigilante groups and bandidos.

In Magami district, residents Thursday morning said they had recovered 53 corpses. They said the attackers moved from village to village, unleashing mayhem, unchallenged.

There was tension in the area over fears that the button men would return to disrupt the burial of those killed. Residents said many of those killed were vigilantes who tried to defend their villages against the bandidos.

As of the time of filing this report, the residents of many communities were yet to bury their dead as more corpses were being discovered in the area.

Residents said the assailants carried sophisticated weapons and raided the villages on cycle of violences. They said most of the villages had earlier been deserted following incessant attacks but that some villagers were returning for the farming season.

The affected communities include Gobirawa, Gora, Rini and Madoti Dankule of Maradun and Bakura local government areas.

In the Magami district of Gusau Local Government Area, the affected communities include 'Yar Doka, Kango, Ruwan Dawa, Madaba, Arzikin Da and Mairairai, the closest of which is seven kilometres from Gusau town.

Residents said hostilities persist in the state due to the absence of security agents in the most affected areas. They said this has encouraged extrajudicial killings and reprisal attacks between vigilante members and bandidos.

The state government condemned the attacks in Maradun and Bakura, but has not spoken on the one in Gusau.

The state's Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, in a statement, said Governor Bello Matawalle was saddened by the unfortunate incidents.

"The government also condoled with the families of those who bit the dust in the sad event and is taking every necessary step to ensure that the culprits are brought to book," Mr Dosara said.

The Grand Turk
U.S. excludes Turkey from F-35 program
[SHAFAQ] The United States and eight other countries have abolished the 2006 deal regarding the F-35 program and signed a new agreement that has excluded The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
, Anadolu Agency (AA) cited a U.S. defense official as saying late Wednesday.

Turkey is one of the main parts suppliers to the warplanes.

The official did not go into further detail regarding the move, according to AA.

Washington removed Turkey from the F-35 Lightning II jet program in 2019, arguing that S-400 air missile systems acquired by Turkey could be used by Russia to covertly obtain classified details on the Lockheed Martin F-35 jets and is incompatible with NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
systems.

Turkey, however, insists that the S-400 would not be integrated into NATO systems and would not pose a threat to the alliance.

Despite Turkey’s removal from the program and sanctions imposed on Turkey’s defense industry in December, the Pentagon has said it will continue to depend on Ottoman Turkish contractors for key F-35 components.

A U.S. congressional watchdog warned in May 2020 that the U.S. decision to expel Turkey from the F-35 program is likely to compound its already beleaguered supply chain issues from a production increase. The $398 billion (TL 3 trillion) F-35 program has faced many problems since then, including engine shortages.

New York Subway Bomber Sentenced to Life in Prison
Good. May the rest of his life be exceedingly uncomfortable.
[AnNahar] A Bangladeshi immigrant was sentenced to life in a U.S. prison Thursday for a botched attempt to unleash carnage with a kaboom in a crowded New York subway passage in the name of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Akayed Ullah
...the very connected lone wolf who belonged to the Al Qaeda-linked Masjid Nur al-Islam mosque in Brooklyn...
maimed himself and three other people in the December 11, 2017 blast in a tunnel below the Port Authority bus terminal near Times Square.

The bomb, which he strapped to his body with zip wires, failed to detonate as planned, and Ullah was left with burns to his torso and hands. His victims suffered minor complaints such as ringing in their ears and headaches.

The explosion sowed panic and disrupted the Monday morning commute during the busy Christmas tourism season, six weeks after a truck driver, also reportedly inspired by IS, killed eight people on a bike path.

Ullah, who migrated to the United States in 2011, was found guilty on all six counts by a Manhattan jury on November 6, 2018.

The 31-year-old's convictions include supporting a foreign terrorist organization, using a weapon of mass destruction and bombing a public place.

Judge Richard Sullivan said that although Ullah "ultimately failed" in the execution of the attack, it didn't make him "less culpable."

"Your conduct was truly heinous. This is about as bad a crime as there is," he said, handing down the life sentence.

Ullah's defense counsel had called for the mandatory minimum sentence of 35 years.

Ullah said what he had done was "wrong."

"I can tell you from the bottom of my heart I am deeply sorry for what I did," he told the sentencing hearing.

Ullah was caught on CCTV walking through the subway terminal and detonating the bomb strapped to his body. After his arrest, he allegedly told authorities: "I did it for the Islamic State."

Ullah, a lawful permanent resident of the United States, built the bomb in his apartment, packing the device with metal screws and Christmas tree lights, having planned the attack for several weeks.

On the morning of the bombing, Ullah posted a statement on Facebook referring to the U.S. president saying: "Trump you failed to protect your nation."

A chilling handwritten note saying "O America die in your rage" was found, along with metal pipes, wires and screws in his home, prosecutors said.

Ullah began to radicalize in 2014, three years after moving to the United States, by watching IS propaganda online before starting to research how to make bombs a year ago, officials said.

Prosecutors said he opposed US government policies in the Middle East and wanted to terrorize as many people as possible, deliberately choosing a week day when the area would be most crowded.
Benar News adds:
The Dec. 11, 2017, explosion in a passageway connecting the subway station at Times Square to New York’s Port Authority bus station, occurred less than two weeks after IS released a propaganda video, "Flames of War II." In it, leaders called on supporters to carry out attacks in the United States.

One day after the bombing, Ullah’s wife, Ferdous Jui, was questioned by police in Dhaka.

She said her husband, who had been living in Brooklyn, N.Y., since 2011, visited Bangladesh in early September 2017, months after she gave birth to their son.

He made the trip to arrange U.S. immigration papers for his family, officials said.
So the family lied when they said he went home to visit a Rohingya refugee camp to conduct charity work? How unexpected. Still, he had to know by then what he planned to do. What did he think the American authorities would do to his family afterward?
According to Bangladeshi police, Ferdous Jui told them that her husband may have been influenced by sermons and writings of radical Moslem preacher Jasim Uddin Rahmani.
Her husband told her to look into what the man had to say, which was a strong hint. Mufti Muhammad Jasimuddin Rahmani has been behind bars since he was arrested in 2013. Inspired by Anwar al-Awlaki, his followers include members of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al Islami (HuJI) and Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh. He was connected to JMB by marriage...
The preacher is the imprisoned leader of a banned Bangladeshi murderous Moslem group, Ansar al-Islam, also known as Ansarullah Bangla Team.
Ansar-al-Islam is the name they took when they became the Bangladeshi branch of Al Qaeda in the India Subcontinent. They’re notorious for murdering secular Bangladeshi bloggers and writers. In 2017 an ABT man was arrested in India for recruiting for ISIS, which might explain why our miscreant insisted so strongly his dastardly deed was dedicated to ISIS rather than Al Qaeda...
The prosecutor questioned Ullah’s remorse, noting that he proudly boasted about carrying out the attack in the name of IS.

The prosecution’s sentencing memo also showed that Ullah remained radicalized and issued threats following his arrest.

"You started this war, we will finish it. More is coming, you’ll see," he told a corrections officer, according to the memo.

Pakistan: Deadly car bomb rocks luxury hotel in Quetta

[DW] A boom-mobile blast in the parking of a luxury hotel in southwestern Pakistain killed four and maimed at least 11, on Wednesday night.

The blast hit the Serena Hotel in the city of Quetta in Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province. Police said responders took victims to nearby hospitals. Local TV channels flashed images of burning cars.

MILITANT GROUP CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY
The hard boy group Tehrik-e-Taliban
...Arabic for students...
Pakistain grabbed credit for the attack. "It was a suicide kaboom in which our jacket wallah used his explosives-filled car in the hotel," the group told Rooters in a text message. The group has close links to al-Qaeda.

Senior police official Azhar Akram said officers were trying to determine whether the bomb was planted in a vehicle that was parked in the hotel's parking lot. Some security officials said the bomb went kaboom! minutes after a car entered the parking lot.

Chinese Ambassador Nong Rong had earlier in the day met provincial Chief Minister Jam Kamal in the city. It was not clear whether the blast was targeted at the envoy or members of the delegation.

The Serena hotel is near the Iranian Consulate and the provincial parliament building. Balochistan province, which is rich in mineral resources, has seen insurgency by local secessionists over the years. The Pak Taliban and "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
" group also have a presence.
An Nahar adds:
Officials raised the corpse count to five.

Beijing said it strongly condemned the attack, although the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
said Pakistain security officials were the target of the blast.

The bomb was placed in a car parked at the Serena hotel -- part of a five-star chain popular with diplomats -- and detonated late Wednesday in the city of Quetta, capital of Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province.

For years the TTP unleashed deadly attacks on urban centres across Pakistain from their bases along the Afghan border, where they provided shelter to an array of global jihadist groups including Al Qaeda.

But a massive military offensive launched in 2014 largely destroyed the group's command and control structure, dramatically reducing turban violence throughout Pakistain.

Analysts warn, however, that Pakistain has yet to tackle the root causes of extremism.

Balochistan is Pakistain's largest and poorest province despite being rich in natural resources.

Resentment has been fuelled by billions of dollars of Chinese money flowing into the region through the China-Pakistain Economic Corridor (CPEC) -- a key part of China's Belt and Road Initiative -- which locals say gave them little benefit as most new jobs went to outsiders.

In 2019 button men stormed a luxury hotel overlooking a flagship CPEC project -- the deep-water seaport in Gwadar that gives China strategic access to the Arabian Sea -- killing at least eight people.

And in June, Baloch forces of Evil targeted the Pakistain Stock Exchange, which is partly owned by Chinese companies.

Both attacks were claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army.

Iraq
Turkish shelling near Zakho village: local official
[Rudaw] Ottoman Turkish shelling struck 500 metres from homes in a village in Zakho's Batifa sub-district on Thursday, a mukhtar (chief) told Rudaw.

Shelling on the village of Kashani lasted for an hour on Thursday afternoon, village mukhtar Hassan Kashani told Rudaw.

"Some of the shelling landed as close as 500 metres from peoples' homes," Kashani said.

There were no casualties as a result of the attack, the village chief added, but locals have been left shaken.

Airstrikes took place earlier in the afternoon on the village of Kaniatu, an administrative official who did not want to be named told Rudaw.

Batifa, located in Duhok province, is regularly struck by Ottoman Turkish bombardments, with the latest taking place last month after a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attack on a Ottoman Turkish military base in the area.

Earlier this month, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire...
conducted Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s on Mount Matin in Duhok province. The Ottoman Turkish defence ministry said it killed five PKK fighters in the bombing.

The PKK is a Kurdish gang which has fought for increased rights for Turkey's Kurdish minority for decades. It is designated a terrorist group by Ankara. Its headquarters are in the Kurdistan Region's Qandil mountain range.

Villages in Batifa were left without water and electricity after Ottoman Turkish bombings in December.

More than 500 villages have been emptied as a result of Ottoman Turkish and Iranian incursions into the Kurdistan Region since 1992, according to a parliamentary report released in September.

According to the latest figures from the International Crisis Group, at least 5,311 people have been killed during PKK-Turkey festivities since July 20, 2015, when the short-lived grinding of the peace processor between both sides ended.

Rockets hit near Baghdad international airport, no casualties
At this point it’s not weather, it’s climate.
[AlAhram] At least three rockets landed in the perimeter of Baghdad International Airport late on Thursday, Iraqi security officials said.

The officials said the rockets landed near the area of the airport which houses U.S. forces and there were no reported damages or casualties.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Deutsche Welle adds:
An Iraqi soldier was maimed, the AFP news agency reported.

Security forces also said they found and defused unfired rockets from the rooftop of an empty house that was used to launch the rockets, the statement said.

US officials blamed Iran-backed militias for the attack, although no group initially grabbed credit.

At least two children killed in Qamishli clashes: medical source
[Rudaw] At least two children were killed during ongoing festivities between northeast Syria’s (Rojava) internal security forces (Asayish) and militia affiliated with the Syrian regime in Qamishli, a medical source confirmed to Rudaw.

A ten-year-old and a 12-year-old were killed on the third day of festivities in the Kurdish-majority city of Qamishli on Thursday, Khabat hospital’s health staff confirmed to Rudaw’s Viviyan Fattah on Thursday.

Clashes broke out between the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria’s Asayish forces and Syrian government-backed National Defense Forces (NDF) on Tuesday night.

One member of the Asayish forces was also killed during the festivities earlier in the week.

This comes after an "understanding" was reached between the two sides at a meeting at the Qamishli airport on Wednesday through Russian intervention in a meeting to stop the festivities, North Press Agency (NPA) reported on Wednesday.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
Rojava’s interior authority’s co-chair Haifei Mustafa told NPA on Thursday morning that they have not reached a final agreement yet.

"Even if the Russia-brokered ceasefire materializes between the two sides, we cannot deem it a lasting agreement. This is merely a truce, not a lasting solution," Basman al-Assaf, head of the United Syria Association, a political organization in Rojava, told Rudaw’s Nalin Hassan on Thursday.

"According to the ceasefire, Russian troops are to be deployed in the locations where fighting took place and the rivalling sides will be removed from them," he added.
