Shoutout to all adventure seekers! Kashmir is all set to introduce paragliding and white water rafting courses at its famous Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering (JIM) and Winter Sports!
What’s more? Defence Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, who also chairs the Executive Council of the institute, announced a whopping grant of Rs 10 crore to facilitate the inclusion of the adventure sports at the 8th meeting of 3rd Executive Council of the institute.
This meeting held nearly after a gap of a decade since 2007, was also graced by J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
She emphasised the need for popularising adventure sports and mountaineering among the school children to help them explore the state better.
“Being citizens of a hilly state our youth ought to be trained in mountaineering for which your institute has a greater responsibility,” CM Mufti told the management of the adventure school.
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman directed the institute management to work in association with the Local Tourism and Education Departments to popularise these adventure sports among students.

The highlights of the meeting included the decision to launch courses in Paragliding and White Water Rafting with around 20 students in each course and a nod to the change in funding pattern of the institute.
IS Thapa, Principal of the JIM said the inclusion and popularisation of these adventure activities would boost state tourism as well.
