Have you ever had a question for a folk musician but were afraid to ask? Of course not. Folk musicians are the most approachable and friendly people on the planet.

We posed a few questions to Lynne Hanson from The LYNNeS and she happily supplied answers to a few questions.

• What makes you laugh? Giant pandas. They constantly fall down, sometimes from significant heights, but never seem to get hurt. Which leads me to believe they are actually made of rubber. I’m also pretty sure their only purpose in this life is to eat bamboo and make humans laugh.
• What song evokes the strongest memories for you? “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. My mom was a huge fan so I was exposed to them at an early age and this is probably one of my all time favourite happy songs. It’s the giant panda of music for me. Don’t tell anyone I like ABBA though. It’d kill my street cred.
• What do you like most about yourself? My ability to make a decision and stick to it. Wait … can I change my answer? Okay, it’s probably the fact that I don’t take myself too seriously. A healthy sense of humour goes a long way in this industry 🙂
• What’s the best part of getting older – especially as a singer-songwriter? I spend a lot less time sweating the small stuff. As a singer-songwriter this has meant caring less about what others might think and being more willing to chase my own creative vision. Which has been incredibly freeing.
• What’s the best part about touring with someone else? Being able to share the driving. Two or more people on the road means more napping in the car, which also saves a LOT of money on coffee.
• I see you recently toured with a jazz band. How has your music evolved over the years? I have definitely been influenced by all the musicians I’ve toured with as well as the songwriters I’ve written with. All of those experiences have left a musical imprint and I think the result is to incorporate little pieces of all those styles into my songwriting.
• When are you most present? I think it’s when I’m writing songs. There’s something magical about working with words and musical notes to create something from nothing that demands that a songwriter (at least this one) be in the moment and nowhere else.
• What do you do each day that matters? I try and practice gratitude, as I’m very fortunate to write and perform songs for a living.
• Who is the most unusual member of your family? I’m the youngest of eight children so that’s actually not an easy question to answer as we are all so incredibly weird. Though if I were being honest I’d admit it’s probably me 🙂
• They are putting together a tribute evening of your music. Who would you like to see performing your songs? Patty Griffin. I’m a huge fan of her songwriting, so it would be pretty cool to get to hear her rendition of one of my songs.
