In February of 1986, Pet Shop Boys released their fourth single, "Love Comes Quickly". It was backed by "That's My Impression". The A side appeared on their debut album, Please. The B side was a non-LP track. The single reached the #19 spot on the U.K. singles chart and the #62 spot on the U.S. singles chart. The London new wave band still records and performs.

Tears For Fears - Songs From The Big Chair

In February of 1985, Tears For Fears released their second album, Songs From The Big Chair. It contained the singles, "Head Over Heels" (#12 U.K., #3 U.S.), "Mother's Talk" (#14 U.K., #27 U.S.), "I Believe" (#23 U.K.), "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" (#2 U.K., #1 U.S.) and "Shout" (#4 U.K., #1 U.S.). The album reached the #2 spot on the U.K. albums chart and the #1 spot on the U.S. albums chart). The Bath, England new wave band was driven by Curt Smith and Roland Orzabel. Curt left the band in 1990 but returned in 2000. They are still active.

Echo & The Bunnymen - Porcupine

In February of 1983, Echo & The Bunnymen released their third album, Porcupine. It contained the singles, "The Back Of Love" (#19 U.K.) and "The Cutter" (#8 U.K.). The album, itself, reached the #2 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The Liverpool, England post punk band disbanded in 1992 but re-formed in 1996 and has been active in the studio and on the stage ever since.

The Feelies - Crazy Rhythms

On this date in 1980, The Feelies released their debut album, Crazy Rhythms. It included the singles, "Fa Ce La" and "Everybody's Got Something To Hide (Except For Me And My Monkey)". The Haledon, NJ power pop band disbanded in 1991 after four albums.

The London punk band is still active in recording and performing.

The Portraits - Hazards In The Home

On this date in 1980, The Portraits released their debut single, "Hazards In The Home". It was backed by "Never Let Go". Neither track appeared on an album. In fact, the band only released two singles under this name and this was the end of their catalog. However, the London new wave band would have a much more extensive catalog of material under the name they chose in 1982--The Fixx.

The Times

This one has no significance with today's date but a reader named Charles had asked that we find an opportunity to post something from The Times.

The Times was a side project from Edward Ball and Daniel Treacy of Television Personalities. The London mod revivalist band lasted from 1980 until 1986 and then released some additional material in the late '80's.

Dalek I Love You - Heartbeat

On this date in 1981, Dalek I Love You released their fourth single, "Heartbeat". The B side was "Astronauts (Have Landed On The Moon)". Neither track appeared on an album. The band, at this time, was officially only Alan Gill (ex-The Teardrop Explodes) though he brought in musicians to help record this song. Merrick (future Adam and The Ants) played drums for these tracks. The Liverpool post punk/new wave band with a constantly changing lineup called it quits in 1990.

The Sheffield, England new wave band formed when Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh split from The Human League.

They lasted through one single, one studio album, one live album and one cassette, all issued within a year.

XTC - Ball And Chain

On this date in 1982, XTC released their fifteenth single, "Ball And Chain". It was backed by "Punch And Judy" and "Heaven Is Paved With Broken Glass". The 12" single contained "Punch And Judy" plus "Cockpit Dance Mixture" as the supporting tracks, the latter of which was a remixed version of an LP track from English Settlement called "Down In The Cockpit", though the song was only on the U.K. edition of the album. The single peaked at #58 in the U.K. The A side also appeared on English Settlement, their fifth album, while the other supporting tracks were not. The Swindon, England post punk/new wave band called it quits in 2006.

The band, at various points in their career, was also called Wah! Heat, Shambeko! Say Wah!, JF Wah!, The Mighty Wah! and Wah! The Mongrel.

Christian Death - Only Theatre Of Pain

On this date in 1982, Christian Death released their debut full length LP, Only Theatre Of Pain. There were no singles released from the album. The Los Angeles goth band is considered the father of American gothic rock. The name of the band was originally meant as a parody of Christian Dior, the designer clothing brand. They continue to record and perform despite the death of founder, Rozz Williams, who hung himself in 1998.

On this date in 1979, Sex Pistols released their second album, The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle. Actually, it was the soundtrack to the movie of the same name and there were recordings by other artists on the album. The album produced the singles, "No One Is Innocent" (#6 U.K.), "Something Else" (#3 U.K.), "Silly Thing" (#6 U.K.), "C'mom Everybody" (#3 U.K.), "The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle" (#21 U.K.), "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone" (#21 U.K.), "My Way" (#6 U.K.) and "You Need Hands". This was, of course, the post-Johnny Rotten Sex Pistols though a lot of the footage in the movie and the recordings were from his time. "No One Is Innocent" was sung by Ronnie Biggs. "Something Else", "C'mom Everybody" and "My Way" were sung by Sid Vicious. "Silly Thing" was sung by Paul Cook. "The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle" was sung by Eddie Tenpole (also known as Eddie Tudor-Pole). "You Need Hands" was sung by Malcolm McLaren. "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone" wqas actually sung by Johnny Rotten. The album reached the #7 spot on the U.K. albums chart.

On this date in 1978, The Vibrators released their fifth single, "Automatic Lover". It was backed by "Destroy". Both tracks appeared on their second album, V2. The single reached the #35 spot on the U.K. singles chart. The London punk bank is still active with lead singer, Knox, and drummer, Eddie, still there.

On this date in 1982, The Fleshtones released a cassette only album, Blast Off! The recordings were actually from 1978. "American Beat" (backed by "Critical List") was released as a single from the album (thanks evr! --- see comments for more info). The punk/new wave band formed in Queens, NY still perform.

On this date in 1981, Go-Go's re-released their third single, "Automatic". It was backed by "Tonite". Both tracks appeared on their debut album, Beauty And The Beat. The Los Angeles new wave all-girl band broke up in 1985 but re-formed in the 1990's and are still performing.
