A true return to form, by the world's finest metal band - Metallica. The drumming (by Lars Ulrich) on the titular track, is worth the price of the record alone. In fact, it had me headbanging at such a forceful and frantic pace, that I had to be taken to hospital and I am now having to wear a soft foam cervical collar for the next three weeks, to limit my neck movements and aid the refusion of my trapezius muscle. Yes, it really is THAT good!!

Excellent all around. From what I gather, there’s nothing new about this pressing in particular (aside from the orange variant!) Same lacquer which happens to be cut by the great CB! Reference quality pressing and the orange variant is a winner. Don’t sleep on this one.

This page shows the new 2021 orange repress as 180 gram, however, I am wondering about the source for this? The Metallica website does not indicate this new 2021 pressings is 180 gram, and the Walmart (exclusive distributor) website does not indicate this new pressing as 180 gram. Can someone please verify if this is correct and please indicate the source of the information??

If you are honestly thinking of buying this mass produced issue, you should invest in the Pink Vinyl version which is limited to 2,500 and sounds great... And you know what you can still buy cheaper than this version :)

Huh never noticed that the track order is slightly rearranged on the vinyl version before. Dream No More and Am I Savage are moved, and they didn't even trade places so they move a bunch of other songs out of the way by 1. They didn't even need to do it to make the sides fit better, they all stayed the same (about 20 minutes). Then again this is a quirky album to begin with. They made the CD version 2cds for no reason (the entire album is less than 78 minutes so it fits on 1CD). At the time I thought it was to make it better match the vinyl release but I guess not.
Oh since this is a review I guess I should mention if I liked the album or not: I FUCKING LOVED IT!!! I still wouldn't say it's better than their 80s albums but I like it better than any other non-80s Metallica album so that's saying something. I even like it better than the black album. Apparently Kirk Hammett lost his riff tape shortly before the recording sessions began so there's very little input from him, and the album seems all the better for it. I almost feel like a traitor for saying that, but some of the things I disliked about post-black-album Metallica are missing from this album.
The singles were Hardwired, Atlas Rise, and Moth Into Flame, but since I only knew the 1st one on release day I incorrectly guessed it would be Hardwired, Sleep No More (the Cthulu song) and Spit Out The Bone (the robo-pocalypse song). So those were the ones I added to my "best of Metallica" playlist. They still feel more like real singles to me than the ones Metallica picked. They made music videos for all 12 songs, but like most music videos post-1995 they either don't match what the lyrics are about or only half-match it. Still, we should be thankful that they went the "every song gets a video" route. I wish more bands would, but I guess a prerequisite is "must be a top selling band first".
I would HIGHLY recommend getting this album if you don't already have it. This one and Death Magnetic are the most important non-80s albums in Metallica's career.
