The Promises / Fun With Numbers Split Single

Here's a double a sided split single, with a couple of Canadian bands from the Vancouver area. Each side is represented by a different band, on a different label. The Promises later released a 12" single in 85 with the songs, "Shark and Yesterdays Girl". I read They later became The Last Corvairs. They have a track on the Molson Canadian Homegrown Volume IV comp from 1990. I really couldn't find anything else on either band. Enjoy!

God's Lonely Men - All This and More

God's Lonely Men were a Salo, Finland three piece that formed in 1986. They named themselves after the Lurkers tune or possibly the Lp title, not sure . They released this full length, two singles and and a few comp tracks before disbanding in 1992. On this Lp's insert, they list themselves as a three piece but show four pictures? At any rate, it's a solid offering with a number of memorable songs.
A brief re-form in 1999 yielded a mini album titled, "This World" in 2000. I haven't seen any evidence of further activity.
Enjoy!

The Rattlecats - Run My Life Single

The Rattlecats were a Austin, Texas four piece; that formed in the late 70's. This was their only record, it was self released. 500 copies were pressed. A mistake was made on the label. Run My Life was printed as Run My Live. The V was crossed out by hand and changed to an F. A stamped sleeve, with the band name and paw prints also exists. By 1983, the band called it quits. Cheap Rewards put out a cool unreleased song on, "Radio Ready, Vol 1" If you want to read more on these guys go check his blog out.

G.Squad - In My Mind Single

a re-post by request, originally posted 2-27-2009, new rips and pics, enjoy!

Once again, a big thank to Paul Powell for the band info. G squad were a mostly Norfolk, based four piece; around from 1979 til 1982. This single and a few other songs were recorded over two sessions at Octopus Studios in Stowupland, Suffolk. Unfortunately, I've noticed a slight pressing issue with my copy. There's a bit of audible noise on side one but it's not terrible.

Riff Doctors (I Don't Wan't To Go Back Single)

(re-post, new rips)
Riff Doctors were a short lived four piece from possibly, the Hoboken NJ area. I found a track on one of the Teenline comps that suggests they were from Durham, NC,? Anyway, I'm pretty sure this was their only record; it was put out on Steve Fallon’s Coyote records label, who formerly owned Maxwell’s, a great club in Hoboken. After this, Donna Esposito, (formerly of The Cyclones) joined the band, and they changed their name to “Cowboy, and Spin Girl”. There's a cassette only release you can hear over at the great Wilfully Obscure Blog. As usual, information is limited; so if I have something wrong, or there’s something you would like to add, please feel free.

Bullet Proof - Tonight Single

Happy Thanksgiving everybody! Here's one I hunted for quite a few years; it's a tough one to find for sure. Unfortunately, info on these guys is even harder to come by. The only thing I could find is they were from Ontario, Canada. Tonight is a revved up rock-n-roll tune. It's ok but the flip is why I searched for this so long. Broken Promises is super catchy, rock inspired pop, complete with piano. Great stuff, Enjoy!

The Press - Fodder For The Critics

I seen this one for sale a few times over the years but never heard it. I finally got my chance when the Short Sharp Kick In The Teeth Blog posted it about ten years ago. A few years later, I finally scored a nice copy for myself. Since no longer available to hear; I figure this is a good time to add it here. It's a great record, with a nice mix of pubrock, pop and a few punk smashers for good measure. Trapped In The Wreckage is my favorite of the bunch.
The Press were a Sydney, Australia four piece; that were around from 1977, through 1979. Besides this Lp, there's also a single; both are on Laser Records Label.

The Comets - Big Business Jokes Single

The Comets were a Ocala, Florida three piece. They met and formed in Nassau, Bahamas around 1980. This is the second of two singles. They also released a 10" titled "Pick of the Litter" all on Orange Records. I can't speak for the other records, as I've never heard them but as well documented; this single sounds very Jam like. For me, I love the Jam so as they say, "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". I was always under the assumption, singer Mich Shields probably put on his British accent, which was done by a few US bands of the time. To my pleasant surprise while researching the band; I discovered Mich was actually from London, legitimizing them even more . I saw what appears to be a picture sleeve floating around the net for this but I've never seen one for sale, so it may not be real. At any rate, these guys kicked ass, the tunes are catchy and the drum and cymbal work on Big Business Jokes is just incredible. If any of you happen to have the other two records, I'd love to hear them..
