Subway Sect - Nobodys Scared

Now I'm gonna be a little biased here. As far as I'm concerned everything that Vic Goddard has been involved with is brilliant. I have stuck with him through all of his incarnations (punk to swing to world music to whatever) and I have loved everything.

And this is the song that started it. In fact I saw Subway Sect first and then bought the single. This for me was what punk was about. I love the b-side as well (but then I would) even though I admit for some it might take a little getting used to.

But now you can make up your own mind. Try out the legendary Subway Sect and tell me what you think.

I was going to say, if you like then buy this, a good snapshot of all Vics different styles, but its only available on the market place from £45 - So if you like the posting tell me and I will post some more. Come on whoever owns this stuff - re-release it.

Subway Sect - Ambition

I promised some more 'Subway Sect' and here it is. Their classic second single, massively different from 'Nobody's Scared' (posted earlier).

It is hard to describe this, it could nearly be a 'pop' song but the guitar and vocals steer it away from being mainstream (Vic Goddard always appeared to avoid fame, just as something started to get popular, he would break it up and start again). This was 'single of the week' in 'Sounds' (see punk 77 link)

Both sides in my opinion are excellent (but as I have said before I am a little biased to Goddard) so I'll leave it to you to decide. The Lyrics to the b-side 'Different Story' are on the back cover (as per usual high resolution scan included).

Vic Godard & Subway Sect - 'Split Up The Money'

Another classic from Vic Godard & Subway Sect, you can hear a little of the old Subway Sect sound in the background, but as usual Godard starts too move into a new direction and sound of his own. Both sides are excellent catchy tunes that will have you walking around singing along.

Produced by Bernie Rhodes (the ex notorious Clash manager) who appears to have had a long relationship with Vic Godard. A few years later he formed 'Club Left' (it was meant to be the only good club left to go to) where Vic Godard and Subway Sect regularly played as headliners.

If you like then go and buy Vic Godard's excellent second album, this new version includes both of these tracks plus a load of other extra tracks. It is a true masterpiece and one of my all time favorites:
