letters.jpgWe who write about photography owe a lot to Frederick Barnard, an advertising manager in the 1920s. When selling ad space on the side of streetcars, he used the words, “One look is worth a thousand words”. At first he claimed the saying came from a Japanese proverb, but shortly changed it to ‘One picture is worth ten thousand words’, attributing it to the Chinese. It appeared with Chinese characters (畫意能達萬言) in Barnard’s journal Printers’ Ink. Barnard later admitted that he called it “a Chinese proverb, so that people would take it seriously.” Later, the proverb would become attributed to Confucius.

Finding its way into dictionaries of quotations, the phony proverb became the mantra of every photoeditor and everyone who writes preface or prolegomenon to a photobook. I would not spend a thousand words explaining every single picture on this site but I hope the images here spark good debate and imbue knowledge worth more than a thousand words. So please leave your comments and constructive criticisms below so that I can improve the website to spew even more words.

      • Well, This Richard is not on the sex offender list, and does not believe that nude children is not a form of art. Speak for yourself

      • Well at least I don’t have any pictures of brooke Shields in the nude

    • I talked about this recently and and no offence but how does a single westerner realistically able to count 10000. Do you just take words at face value. Were there photos and videos that can confirm 10000. There were foriegn journalists that day l, who took photos and videos. You will find no such solid evidence of huge massacres was ever provided. Not saying it didn’t happen. 🙄

Just saying there were videos about the event, but most of them were just some guy/girls’ accusing while no visions of massive corps, wounded ppl, or bloody scenario when thousands of people were killed…can you show me a photo or video link of massacres

There were news about the event, but only with stories that can never be proved by readers. What you can also find are biased verbal interviews with some of the former students who got green cards from the USA. All u got were motivated witnesses reports.

Tank man wasn’t squashed because the military chose not to run him over. They wanted to ideally intimidate but not kill. The Australian reporter with a camera, who said the entire streets were filled with dead. Why conveniently no photos? Did the chinese take the photo away from him??

Don’t take my word for it. I’m chinese afterall. Listen to a white faced man who was actually there. And call him a shill because ylu don’t like what he is saying. But i have “one question for you.

Where are the photoes and videos of massacres ?? There was one clear western film showing a protestor attacking police with molotov cocktails and suddenly Chao broke out. There were indeed fighting much to western peoples delight but if massacres happened, please show us the photo and videos. There were plenty of Western journalists recording everything amd the chinese giv did not take away their videos or films. So where are the photos and videos lf mass massacres or do we jusT take the verbal words?

      ~~

THE CAMERAS were indeed there, and showed a peaceful demonstration that went on for a couple of weeks. The government tried to disperse the crowd by the equally peaceful method of persuasion, then by sending in unarmed police. Finally, in exasperation, the army were called in, but the demonstrators chose to instigate violence. Video films clearly show a demonstrator throwing a Molotov cocktail at the first personnel carrier to enter the square. Hand-to-hand fighting broke out and spread to nearby streets, where many people were killed. The reporting of this tragic episode is yet another example of media manipulation of the news. No-one was killed in Tiananmen Square; the famous film of the man with the carrier-bag defying a column of tanks shows them stopping and turning aside to avoid crushing him; and the bullet holes that reporters said had riddled the statue in the centre of the square seemed to have suddenly disappeared when we saw workmen cleaning up the following day. The notion that unarmed students had assembled to demonstrate peacefully and were immediately shot down in their hundreds by the People’s Liberation Army (as the British army did in Amritsar) is a lie.

      • One picture is worth a thousand words. Complete lack of picture deslite the world’s journalists were there that day. and just empty words but instantly accepted at face value, also say a thousand words , 🙊🙄

  1. Thank you for this great photography site, it clearly shows how influential can be the work of the photographers.Keep up the good work.

  2. A fantastic website, thank you very much! But theres a little “defect”. I can´t find the names of the artists on a majority of the pictures? You tell the titles of the pictures, but not who has photographed them. Can you please add this, so that I don´t have to google each title? This would improve this site imho.

    • Sometimes, while focusing to put more information about the picture itself, the photographer’s name is mistakenly left behind–if you know which photos are missing the photographers’ names, let me know. i will ratify this.
For some old photos, the photographers’ names are unknown, and impossible to find. Sports Illustrated and Life magazine in their old issues are especially terrible about crediting photographers. if you know the names of the missing photographers too, let me know. i will be grateful.

      • Hello thequintessential,

I was wondering if you would be able to provide me with some information, as I would like to reference your article on Brook shields for an essay on ethics in photography.

I can’t find any way of contacting you, which is why I’m contacting you this way.

        Thank you!

  3. Your blog is excellent. It is educational, entertaining, thought-provoking, ballsy, and cool to look at.

    Keep on keeping on.

  4. Thanks for posting these. Do you have the Little Mermaid image from the Liebowitz Disney dream portrait series? Can’t seem to find it? Thanks. You can write me at my e-mail address.

  5. Your site is amazing, so much good photos, do you have the photo of the german King Wilhelm II. hunting his uncle araound the pond in Windsor Garden? I cannot find it anywhere, thanks a lot and keep the good work going.

  6. The first photo is definitely disturbing. Her naturally boyish body has been posed, and light and shadow used to make her lower portion look much more adult. The tacky glycerined body and facial makeup doesn’t help either.

However, the next 2 photos of her more covered up in the bubble bath are quite lovely and much more innocent and tasteful, because again, at this age, she has a more boyish/unisex looking upper body.

Bottom line, Brooke Shields had quite THE most extraordinarily beautiful face ever seen on a young girl/actress, rivalling a young Elizabeth Taylor.

Even though she remains a beauty today, her young beauty is unmatched and any more photos surfacing, hopefully tasteful, of a young Brooke Shields is a good thing.

  7. It seems I am one of those who stumbled upon this blog searching for Brooke Shields’s image after reading the article about Tate Modern’s removal her photo taken by Garry Gross. I already saw this picture on the web months ago but wanted to re-capture the stunning and mysterious look of the image. Other than that, however, your blog contains much more rich and compelling images and their stories that I have been now spending hours clicking page after page.

  8. Re the Brooke Sheilds photo – if this child wasnt wearing makeup and striking a pose with the sculptures around her suggesting adult form it would be fine, but she is – so its not about the beauty of nudity

    • Im not ashamed to admit that think these are the most beautiful pictures of Brooke Shields! I have the movie pretty baby and yes I have masturbated to her in the scene where she is laying on the couch! So Sexy!

  9. The only thing obscene about the Shields image is the adult face. It,s a false face for this baby body created by the makeup for purient reasons.

  10. Just came across this blog whilst looking up the image Twickenham streaker, and have now spent the past few hours reading through – wonderful! Very informative, gives even more life to these iconic pictures.

    Cheers, I’ll definately be back!

  11. Once of the best blogs I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of the great wisdom of those who do not learn from the mistakes of history, are doomed to repeat them. Look at the pictures and you will understand…

  12. Thank You! Your work is much appreciated. I have sent out the link to this page to many of my friends. My son and I will be spending some time looking through the pictures as well.

The images are instructive in many aspects. I do have a small curiosity. The pictures are very representative of things which have influenced European and American culture. Even when the pictures are from other cultures and countries, they seem to be those that are from elsewhere, but which have been influential in European and American culture. Is there a possibility that an Asian, South American, or African look at iconic photos would reveal different images than those displayed here?

  13. Wonderful!
I’ve used the quote dozens of times, but never knew who coined it. Thanks to Monsieur Barnard and his amazing creativity.
And thanks for putting it up too!
    Cheers.

  14. Very impressive blog! Really enjoyed its thoroughness and assembly of some of the finest images ever produced. Thanks.

  15. your blog is so amazing and interesting it moves me to tears! thanks for the great work – it is a true gift to me – when I discovered it (from andrew sullivan) I spent 2 hours going through every single post – THANK YOU!

  16. “The Saarland joins as the tenth state in the Federal Republic. Visiting the state, which rolled out the red carpet for him, West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer said he hoped Germany’s “lost” territories in the East might some day follow the example of the Saar. They did.”

This comment is completely incorrect; Adenauer is referring to the lost territories of Pomerania, East Prussia and Silesia. All the Germans were ethnically cleansed and the territories have never been returned to Germany.

  17. I really enjoy this site, and appreciate the work it takes to maintain and update. My only wish is that you would proofread the captioning you provide. With every post there are usually pretty bad typos and terrible grammar. To be honest, these things diminish the enjoyment of the site. That’s all. Thanks.

    • What are you , four ? Is this what you do when you don’t get the answer you want ? Find out for yourself the CR date , and go from there . Please , you are acting like a child .

  21. I love this blog. Amazing pictures with amazing stories. And, for me, perfect in length and amount of posts.

I always read ’em fully and I suspect many of my friends are growing tired that I share almost every post via google reader 🙂

  22. I respect your break or whatever you’re taking, but I wanted to let you know that I, for one, have missed you posting nearly every day!

thanks again, though, for the amazing blog so far.

  23. You have a cool blog here.. dont let the naysayers or knitpickers confound your pleasure in it.

    Steady as she goes 🙂

  24. This is a GREAT blog, and I also have missed your daily postings. Please don’t let the crazy people get you down–for every lunatic commenter I’ll guess there are many non confrontational readers who truly appreciate your work.

  25. Love the site.

You may want to add this one, its a suicide off the Empire State Building, the image is haunting, almost peaceful, not gory but it is indeed a jarring photo.

After jumping from the observation deck, 23-year-old Evelyn McHale plunged over 300 meters down Empire State Building and landed on the roof of a parked UN limousine.

  26. By the way, the original shot was in Black and White ~ circa 1947?

If you look close in her left hand she is holding what what some say was flowers, as someone mentioned; ” in an almost death like grip.”

    Truly a haunting photo!

    • What bout a Happy, lovely one/ Famous legend Peter Gowland recall did remarkable shots of actress Edy Williams, in a white slip at his home holding his black cat, what a masterpiece, He captured sensitivity with class & in her bikini, he has the ability of greatness & Quality.Edy had the looks & he caught them with her, looking more than just a model, true ART!

  27. Just wanted to say that I found your site randomly and spent the last 24 hours here – looking at all the photos and reading about them. Many many of the iconic photos I have seen before. Many many I had not. I must say that I am very impressed with the amount of information and photography from the 1880s-1930s on here. Also, I’m really impressed with the research you have done and with the fact that you often post several versions of the iconic photos in question – sometimes even including frames shot just before or just after the ‘money shot’. I’m impressed you’ve been able to find so much information. The writing is perhaps not as strong as it could be, but the information is fantastic.
    Wonderful blog. Keep it up!

  28. Fantastic site. I found it while I was looking for a story idea for my blog. Turns out that I didn’t get a story idea from your site because I just had to keep looking at everything on your blog and forgot about mine.

Keep it up, I’ll be visiting frequently!

  29. Absolutely start my day by checking in here! Thanks for the great iconic photos and for helping educate the population. “When we stop growing we start dying.”

  30. You may have covered this already, but I wanted to pass it along after your request for ideas.

Here is the link to a photo of Ronald Reagan with half his head shaved waving to the well wishers sending him off in Septmeber, 1989.

While the original photo was little noticed there were a few photoshops, which was new at the time, showing Reagan with a Mohawk.

The playful Reagan also came as the Berlin Wall was starting to fall. Earlier in the year Erich Honecker had predicted ‘the wall would stand for a “hundred more years”‘ A month after the Reagan photo Honecker would resign and the refegees would pour out of the Soviet Satellites.

Also in the photo is Nancy Reagan terrified that the President is looking less than Presidential. Her hand is seen on his head trying to cover it up. It only served to make Ronnie look more open and honest. A wonderful waltz into his retirement 12 years after his ‘Tear Down this Wall’ speech.

    • You got to keep doing what you’re doing. The journey finds a lot of obstacles and along the way, the world view could change. Thank you for sharing this information with me. I have used a few of them and I really can’t make up my mind on which of them I like the most.

  31. Brilliant site – thank you so much.
Absolutely fascinating and I find your writing very helpful to put the pictures in some context.

  32. Love this site and the stories behind the images.Amazing achievement compiling the site. Really well done and thankyou.

  33. these aren’t so much ‘iconic photos’, most of them, as photos connected to social/political history that need long paragraphs to make them come alive.

  34. You have a wonderful site. I love it. I will be sending it off to all of my friends and relations. I hope you can earn a living off of it and keep it going. Thanks.
    Mike

  35. It is really wonderful to visit the past through these images of legendary people and places. Thank you, very much.

  36. Hello, may be you can find something about an iconic photo from Katyn (at least I saw it in connection with the Katyn’s massacre) where a Russian officer shoots with pistol over two kneeing men.

  37. Hello
Thanks for writting your blog. I’m a photographer, but I studied Politic Science. It’s good to see two things that I love merged together. Please, keep up the political line that you’ve been following on recent posts. It’s nice to learn some unknown history through photography.

    Thanks

  38. If those men that did that to 14-yr old.Emmet are not dead yet, they are going to hell when they die and they are going to rot beyond Emmet’s damage.

    • Every couple of months I come across blogs worthy of multiple revisits. This is, by far, the best. I hope you reach and go beyond 1000 posts.

      🙂

      Take care, Evan

  39. Thank you for your wonderful efforts to compile such a mesmerizing collection of photographs. I am glad I found your website, will be bookmarking it for sure!

  40. Have I seen Salvador Allende leaving el Palacio de la Moneda armed to defend from the military coup? That was in Chile and Chile was not coloured in your map. Marcelo from Argentina.

  41. Just a breif comment on your George Wallace Shooting Photo.

Arthur Bremer was released from Prison a year or two ago on Parole. He is not allowed to leave Maryland and I imagine he has pretty strict restrictions. But I thought it was a little crazy to let a guy like that out during our last election.

  42. First off, let me tell you that I love this site and I enjoy coming to it every couple of days to see the updates! But after going through all the posts, i came to notice that you didn’t have the world-famous picture from the National Geographic cover of the Afghan girl. I don’t know if you’ve simply forgotten it or if you’re trying to avoid those super famous ones, but I just thought I’d let you know.
Even if you don’t include it, though, I’ll still be following the site. Thanks!

  43. I sugest this pic (http://img.nrk.no/img/438468.jpeg) to be chosen for iconic photos from Norway. It shows our late monarch Olav V (1913-1991, in office from 1957) during the oil crisis in 1973. The government forebade the use of motor vehicles on Sundays due to gas shortage, and Olav V were consequently seen on the tram as a paying traveller. This pivture became a symbol of the king as one of the people, and has been widely used ever since to shorten the percieved gap between the monarch and the people. 44. I saw all your posts from the latest to the first and was mesmerized with the details and the pictures, you did a tremendously fabulous job. Thank you for the post. Keep up the good efford.

  45. Great blog. I find myself coming back over and over again to look through the pages. I love reading the stories behind the photos. I hope to see some Native American iconic photos here in the future such as Tom Torlino(“Kill the Indian, Save the Man”) or Big Foot at Wounded Knee. Keep up the good work.

  46. thank you so much for this fantastic website.
i’m a dedicated web surfer. this website has kept me glued like no other i can remember.
    I LOVE IT.

  47. >”You can’t live without facebook, – – ”

I understand this is deliberately hyperbolic and you do admit the post is uncommonly loose, but lets be careful to note that the statement is not strictly true. I joined long enough to see if there were any social circles I needed to know about, then quit after an hour or so’s browsing. Maybe my still-beating heart is illusory. I have yet to be snubbed by an actual acquaintance because I quit. Online, you can always walk away.

  48. I joined to hook up with friend Henry David Thoreau and discovered he could not get net hookup at Walden and so I unfriended myself, much to my happiness.

      • Thank -you , thequintessential . I appreciate your consideration , as well as the work you do here . One of the sites I often recommend .

  49. this is just one of the best sites i’ve ever come across. i regularly read it and just think it’s a great undertaking. thanks!

    • eh. u noticed that little detail — it was put there mischievously since that piece is an alt-history.

  50. Great blog, one thing missing, Pierre Trudeau “fingering” anti french protesters in Western Canada from a train. Good luck finding a pic of it though, every last one seems to have been purged from the internet. It happened Aug. 12 1982.
    Thanks

  51. I suffered for years from ADHD, could never concentrate or sit down for more them ten minutes for that matter, I tried all sort of drugs none took any positive effect on me, until I tried Adderall, this switched things completely for me, if anyone has a similar problem I suggest you read up on this medication online and see why it is so much better then all the rest out there

  52. Great work, I appreciate your efforts in keeping the memmories alive and bringing to light those subjects I hadn’t heard of. Keep up the good work, I look forward to more of the same.

  53. Love the picture! I have a Chinese character tattooed on my ankle. It means dangerous. I have a photo of it on my site as long with all my other tatts. Thanks!

  54. I love the site and after reading many of the posts I’m still not sure where you live but I thought this might be of interest to you
    http://www.channel4.com/programmes/warsaw-ghetto-the-unfinished-film/episode-guide/series-1/episode-1

the Nazis created a mysterious propaganda film that juxtaposed meticulously staged scenes of Jews enjoying a life of luxury in the ghetto with other, chilling images that required no staging at all.

After the war, filmmakers and museums – unaware of the deception – used images from the film as objective illustrations of life in the ghetto, which subsequently became engraved as historical truth.
So sometimes a picture is not what it seems ……

  55. Firstly – Thank you for a wonderful site.

Secondly – Would you mind reviewing one time the photo from Yitzhak Rabin’s assasination?

There was a video photographer on the roof of the house across from where Rabin was shot. A still from his film, showing Yigal Amir at the moment of firing at the back of Rabin headed for the car, got first-page prints around the world though is today very hard to find.

This event, just like the Kennedy assasination, sparked an enormous debate of conspiracy lovers that lives on till today, 15 years later.

  65. I’ve gotten valuable freelance jobs that teetered on replying to an email less than an hour after getting the first. I’ve come up with ingenious ideas when a friend burst into my room to strike up a random conversation.

  66. If serializing is prioritized over habits then won’t serialized project approach cause you to constantly work on the next group project? As project time is impossible to calculate you will eventually have to breach particular habit times.

  72. The reasons of partion of India – Just one reason.

    -1-

I am one of those unfortunate people who endured and survived the rigours of migration from East Panjab to West Panjab. The seven-hour train journey from Ambala to Wagah spread over four days and my mother had been so badly injured that she could die any moment. My mother breathed her last after a few days crossing into Pakistan and was buried in Lahore. People who died in the journey were thrown away to wild animals and we saw our nears and dears being ripped apart by the beasts of prey. Of course this happened on both sides. Muslims in Pakistan were not far behind their Hindu-Sikh counterparts in looting, raping and abductions which I personally found out about a year later in Pakistan.

However, in all the accounts of causes and reasons of partition that have appeared is not mentioned the only reason because of which the catastrophic partition of India took please. It has not been mentioned anywhere that it was the Muslim League who had first approved the Cabinet Mission Plan to keep India united. The Muslim League approved the Cabinet Mission Plan unanimously. Whereas later, having taken a longer time than did the Muslim League, the Congress also gave its approval, but after a fierce voting.

That shows that the Muslim League was united on keeping India united. And the Indian National Congress was divided on keeping India united.

Although quotations from Abul Kalam Azad’s ‘India Wins Freedom’ appear in articles and books on the subject. But, sadly what is not quoted are the passages that show quite clearly what precipitated the partition of India and that the Indian National Congress leadership sacrificed the unity of India over the false prestige of the President of Indian National Congress, i.e. Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru. And Indian National Congress made Jinnah and the Muslim League the scapegoat of their failures. I give below the relevant passages from ‘India Wins Freedom’.

Abul Kalam Azad giving account of the A.I.C.C.’s passing the resolution to approve the Cabinet Mission Plan, says:

“My speech had a decisive influence on the audience. When the vote was taken the resolution was passed with an overwhelming majority, thus the seal of approval was put on the Working Committee’s resolution accepting the Cabinet Mission Plan.

After a few days, I received telegrams of congratulation from Lord Pethick Lawrence and Sir Stafford Cripps. They were happy that the A.I.C.C. had accepted my resolution and congratulated me on my able presentation of the Cabinet Mission Plan.

“Now happened one of those unfortunate events which changed the course of history. On 10 July, Jawaharlal held a Press Conference in Bombay in which he made a statement which in normal circumstances might have passed almost unnoticed, but in the existing atmosphere of suspicion and hatred, set in train a most unfortunate series of consequences. Some Press representatives asked him whether with the passing of the Resolution by A.I.C.C., the Congress had accepted the Plan in toto, including the composition of the interim Government.

“Jawaharlal stated in reply that Congress would enter the Constituent Assembly ‘completely unfettered by agreements and free to meet all situations as they arise.’ (Inverted comas of the author)

“Press representatives further asked if this meant that the Cabinet Mission Plan could be modified.

“Jawaharlal replied emphatically that the Congress had agreed only to participate in the Constituent Assembly and regarded itself free to change or modify the Cabinet Mission Plan as it thought best.

“I must place on record that Jawaharlal’s statement was wrong. It was not correct to say that Congress was free to modify the Plan as it pleased. We had in fact agreed that the Central Government would be federal. There would be the compulsory list of three Central subjects while all other subjects remained in the provincial sphere. We had further agreed that there would be the three Sections, viz. A, B and C in which the provinces would be grouped. These matters could not be changed unilaterally by Congress without the consent of other parties to the agreement.

“The Muslim League had accepted the Cabinet Mission Plan, as this represented the utmost limit to which the British Government would go. In his speech to the League Council, Mr. Jinnah had clearly stated that he recommended acceptance only because nothing better could be obtained.

“Mr. Jinnah was thus not very happy about the outcome of the negotiations, but he had reconciled himself as there was no alternative. Jawaharlal’s statement came to him as a bombshell. ………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………… Now that the Congress President had declared that the Congress could change the scheme through its majority in the Constituent Assembly, this would mean that the minorities were

    -2-

placed at the mercy of the majority. His view was that Jawaharlal’s declaration meant that the Congress had rejected the Cabinet Mission Plan and as such the Viceroy should call upon the Muslim league, which had accepted the Plan, to form the Government.

“I was extremely perturbed by this new development. I saw that the scheme for which I had worked so hard was being destroyed through our own action. I felt that a meeting of the Working Committee must be held immediately to review the situation. The Working Committee accordingly met on 8 August. I pointed out that if we wanted to save the situation, we must make it clear that the view of the Congress was expressed by the resolution passed by the A.I.C.C. and that no individual, not even the Congress President, could change it.

The Working Committee felt that it faced a dilemma. On the one side, the prestige of the Congress President was at stake. On the other, the settlement which we had so painfully achieved was in danger. To repudiate the President’s statement would weaken the organization but to give up the Cabinet Mission Plan would ruin the country. Finally, we drafted a Resolution which made no reference to the Press Conference but reaffirmed the decision of the A.I.C.C. in the following terms:

The Working Committee regret to note that the Council of the All-India Muslim League, reversing their previous decision, had decided not to participate in the Constituent Assembly. In this period of rapid transition from dependence on a foreign power to full independence, when vast and intricate political and economic problems have to be faced and solved, the largest measure of co-operation among the people of India and their representatives is called for, so that the change-over should be smooth and to the advantage of all concerned. The Committee realise that there are differences in the outlook and objectives of the Congress and the Muslim League. Nevertheless, in the larger interest of the ……………………………………………………………………………..

“We had hoped that this Resolution of the Working Committee would save the situation …………………………………… .. ………………………………………….. Mr. Jinnah did not however accept the position and held that Jawaharlal’s statement represented the real mind of Congress. He argued that if Congress could change so many times, while the British were still in the country and power had not come to its hands, what assurance could the minorities have that once the British left, Congress would not again change and go back to the position taken up in Jawaharlal’s statement?

“His Excellency the Viceroy, with the approval of His Majesty’s Government, has invited the President of the Congress to take proposals for the immediate formation of an interim Government and the President of the Congress has accepted the invitation. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru will shortly visit New Delhi to discuss this proposal with His Excellency the Viceroy.”

A few passages further, Abul Kalam Azad says:

“Jawaharlal is one of my dearest friends and his contribution to India’s national life is second to none. He has worked and suffered for Indian freedom, and since the attainment of independence, he has become the symbol of our national unity and progress. I have nevertheless to say with regret that he is at times apt to be carried away by his feelings. Not only so, but sometimes he is so impressed by theoretical considerations that he is apt to underestimate the realities of a situation.

“His fondness for abstract theory was responsible for his statement about the Constituent Assembly. The same theoretical bias led him to commit a similar mistake in 1937, when the first elections were held under the Government of India act, 1935. ” (this is about forming the Government of U.P. and Nehru’s refusal to include both Nawab Ismail Khan and Choudhari Khaliquzzaman in the U.P. Government – my words) “Jawaharlal’s mistake in 1937 had been bad enough. The mistake in 1946 proved even more costly.”

My comments: Lord Wavell, the Viceroy, had earlier declared that whichever party first accepted the plan, would be invited to form the Interim Government. That gutless Viceroy went back on his promise and bypassing Jinnah in blatant deceit invited the he President of the Congress instead to form the Interim Government, who had already repudiated the Cabinet Mission Plan and whose catalogue of mistakes had ruined the unity of India.

I repeat one passage quoted above.

“The Working Committee felt that it faced a dilemma. On the one side, the prestige of the Congress President was at stake . On the other, the settlement which we had so painfully achieved was in danger. To repudiate the President’s statement would weaken the organization but to give up the Cabinet Mission Plan would ruin the country. Finally, we drafted a Resolution which made no reference to the Press Conference but reaffirmed the decision of the A.I.C.C. in the following terms. (my emphasis)

    -3-

The gutless, supine and myopic leadership of the Indian National Congress could not see woods from the trees and, in all lunacy, went on to pass a resolution which begins unashamedly by shoving all the blame on the Muslim League. They were so blinded by their selfish interest that they could not see the impending catastrophe by not calling a spade a spade and, as Abul Kalam Azad has recorded, completely omitted even the mention of the bone of contention: the notorious 10 July Nehru Press Conference. The imbecile leadership of Indian National Congress came out in full force to cover up the Himalayan blunder of Nehru rather than rectifying it, which blunder according to Azad changed the course of history of India. What a farce! What a farce!!

The display of lunacy did not stop there. Lord Wawell, in utter insanity, called upon Jawaharlal Nehru, who had repudiated the Cabinet Mission Plan agreement, to form the Interim Government of India. And then all those lunatics, Congress leadership, Wavell and all, went on to blame Mr. Jinnah for the partition. What hypocrisy! What hypocrisy!!

It is not Jinnah who brought about the partition of India; it is the duo of the gutless, spineless, unashamed Jawaharlal Nehru and the self-opinionated, egoistic Lord Mountbatten (now in control) who brought about the partition and the destruction upon India. These two demagogues, Nehru and Mountbatten, preferred the ruination of the country over the false prestige of the Congress President. (It still remains an enigma that Nehru had earlier gone to Malaysia and met Mountbatten, the Supreme Commander. Mountbatten, a soldier in uniform on active service, then made a momentous political statement of great significance by calling Nehru “the future Prime Minister of India”.)

Mr. Jinnah at all times bent over backwards to keep India united. Jinnah concluded the Lucknow Pact I, which was destroyed by Motilal Nehru, the father of Jawaharlal, then again Mr. Jinnah concluded Lucknow Pact II, which was destroyed by Jawaharlal Nehru, then in 1937 Mr. Jinnah threw his weight behind fighting for the independence together with Indian National Congress by way of joining the government in U.P. which was spurned by Jawaharlal Nehru, as recorded by Maulana Azad, and then the1946 disastrous blunder committed by Jawaharlal Nehru.

I am not a fan of Jinnah but I can say it on my life that Jinnah has been honest every single moment of his life. No power on earth could move him away from truth and he would not entertain an expediency that contained a minutest deviation from truth. His self-interest has always been to uphold the truth at all times under all circumstances. Mr. Jinnah was always immaculately dressed. So was his conscience: always immaculately clean of bias, prejudice and falsehood. Whatever he did or said was always clear, manifest and self-evident. And that was also the hall-mark of his legal practice.

To blame Mr. Jinnah for the calamity of partition of India and all the destruction that came in its wake is grossly unjust, false and the ugliest dishonesty of history.

Going by the account of events given by Maulana Azad what, according to him, changed the course of history, there is only one single reason of the disastrous partition of India: The senseless and downright dishonest display of Nehru’s obnoxious & foul diplomacy at the time!!! And the Indian National Congress going along with it.

Thus, united India was sacrificed at the alter of false prestige of the President of Indian National Congress.

History should record it. And I note it with utter dismay that it is omitted all over to record this heinous crime in history committed by the Indian National Congress under the overall lordship of Lord Mountbatten.

It is just to put the record straight.

The new access to the world through the Internet has been just what it needed. There does need to be an intelligent narrative about responsibility as a photographer which too many don’t get. In fact, visual literacy almost doesn’t
exist and too many of the posts here are illiterate, profane and disgusting. But, there are great statements of insight and good questions about images and their half-life to humanity. Keep up this great work, I am very glad I stumbled over it, just as we often find content to photograph.

  144. I have been black for awhile. But this is not a black and white thing. This is a good versus evil thing. There are plenty of good white people and plenty of good black people, plenty of bad on both sides too. Evil and assholes come in every color! The wondrous people of Uganda murdered each other by the thousands. They were black. In the end, they slaughtered more than one million of each other. That wild man Hitler and his irreverent disciple Joseph Stalin, those two dipwads were responsible for the deaths of almost 40,000,000 people. And those clowns were white. The picture above just speaks of evil people doing their evil thing! It happens to focus on white people as the target of that evil. But read the newspapers today. You will undoubtedly find plenty of violent crime acted out primarily by black men against other black people. That is the flip side of a filthy and dirty coin, no matter what color you are.Racism is supremely comfortable and immutably evil! No where in the Good Book does it say, “Thou shall not Nigger! Love thy brother unless he’s a dune coon. Burn all the white people because they are far too clear!” The picture up above doesn’t make me mad. Instead, it points out just how far we have come on both sides of the coin, and how far we still have to go! Attacking people from behind your computer because they can’t get to you, that is easy. Judging people one at a time and trying to fulfill God’s ten commandments, that’s a much more difficult pill to swallow.

  145. Let THE ALMIGHTY GOD be glorify for the strenght gave to my ancesters to faught and got victory for slavery of the belgium and white.
unity; love; and peace in my country

  146. I commend you kit for ur thoughts of intelligence, wish we could all think accordingly even if we are COUNTRY AND WHITE…..COLBY

  147. The Lee Harvey Oswald connection; a conspiracy based upon facts that you can look up for yourselves: I saw something on the History channel the other day about the complete story of Lee Harvey Oswald’s last day or week alive regarding his “wedding ring.” This is when he shot President Kennedy.
There was one thing that stood out. The ring that he left in his old lady’s Russian tea cup. Well, it was his old lady’s mother’s tea cup (who was hooked up with someone from the Russian interior ministry, or something to that effect).
This ring had the Russian sickle and hammer stamped in it (left behind symbolically by Oswald). The Russian sickle and hammer is the equivalent of the Freemason square and compass.
The compass represents God’s intelligent design (the compass, measures angles, degrees, and an imperfect circle according to PI as far as I understand it).
The square represents Man’s architecture, because nature doesn’t build in right angles; as for straight lines, well you could argue that a crystal is a straight line, but built upon natural imperfections. Note: you can gain the proportion of a square from a compass according to Pythagorean’s theorem, because a straight line is 180 degrees, and a right angle is 90 degrees. The “G” is supposedly represents the Great Architect.
In order to have a proper order of operations, the word God should be above the compass, which is above the square. It is not according to “be your own god,” or “do whatever thou wilt.” This plan is specifically against the Catholic Church.
Now take the Russian sickle (agriculture, or God’s intelligent design) and hammer (industry, or Man’s industry) and you can see the connection. The reason why there is no “G” is because the governmental ideology of Russia is communist from the beginning; thus, no freemason structure according to the way the United States manifests the Great Architect’s plan in its “free” people.
The plan is a One World Order with mankind’s enslavement according to the Federal Reserve System here in America. Reportedly, every country in the world is on a One World Order type banking system, with the exception of Iran (Kaddafi was supposedly assassinated because he wanted to back his country’s economy with the country’s own gold). This is what “they” call their manifest destiny; that men are too stupid to run their own world, so they should be enslaved.
This is the thinking behind the Supreme Court’s ruling (here in America) regarding the R.F.I.D. chip, which is currently in the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare), which is a class II transponder system. It is an implantable medical device in the FDA database that is going to contain you records that are life sustaining (your medical records), and your records that are life supporting (your bank records). Note: this is why the A.C.A. was over a thousand pages long; to hide their plan regarding the R.F.I.D. chip, and this is why the current congress is only speaking of repealing Obamacare in part (today is 12/2/2014).
According to this R.F.I.D. chip (which is literally the “mark of the beast,” because it was first used to mark your pets as your property) it is part of the A.C.A. under the “commerce clause” of the United States Constitution (where the judicial branch does not have substantive powers to legislate; much like Obama and his immigration bullshit) as a tax. This is manifest destiny thinking!
This is because the Federal Reserve System is a Ponzi scheme utilized to bankrupt America, where the R.F.I.D. chip is based upon the Hollerith machines of Nazi Germany, and the fact that there is a number on the bottom of your birth certificate that is on the stock market (more manifest destiny thinking). Note: Obama’s stimulus package is a giant step towards bankrupting America due to inflation, where you received a one-time payment of 300 dollars, but your prices at the grocery store tripled permanently (so the State can indoctrinate you children to Obama instead of saying the Pledge of Allegiance to their country by having you work two jobs, with no benefits, for the same food; is this Marxist?). Note: Obamacare is also Obama’s second stimulus package.
You do know that Obama is a Marxist President in his ideology don’t you? You should, you elected him. Now back to Lee Harvey Oswald. According to sources, the Freemasons infiltrated Russia in 1917.
Now take this fact with Italics in the 1954 Douay (Catholic) bible (they are not supposed to be there look at the book of Jerimias; I think this book manifests this fact (that they are not supposed to be there, which is due to a lack of purpose). The England version of this Bible uses the word “shew bread” instead of “show bread (which is in the American version of the same year).” Why is Old English (the language) used in a modern Douay Bible?
Maybe it’s Ed Sullivan: “that a really big shew.” Maybe it’s Khrushchev banging his shoe on a podium before the U.N. stating “America we will bury you.” Maybe it’s the fact that Gorbachev won a Nobel Peace prize for dismantling his country. Maybe it’s the fact that Obama won a Nobel Peace prize for being elected President (for dismantling his country before it even happened; more manifest destiny thinking).
So, how does this tie in to Lee Harvey Oswald. Well according to the documentary that I saw, he met with the K.G.B. guy in charge of Assassinations back then, the week before he assassinated President Kennedy, where President Kennedy (in a press conference) told the world press to manifest any One World Order corruption. This is what is the Great Architect’s plan is. I am a “gangstaking” victim, but I paid attention to their attacks over the years. I went to college and learned their ways with the basis that “they” are 100 percent anti-God. This is due to their cruel methods; I am a Catholic.
On one more note: there was a prophecy by Saint Malachy that the “black” Pope would be assassinated with the Russian federation flag flying about the Vatican. Take this and apply this to the movie Stripes. “call me Psycho.” “You call me Francis and I’ll kill you.” I like how Psycho was shooting at that flock of birds with his M-16 don’t you. Maybe this is according to Saint Francis; the Patron Saint of Animals.

Ich bin die Tochter des Gottfried A. Höll, Chemnitzer Strasse 121,
01187 Dresden (Ortsteil Plauen), Tel.: 0151-56053270

  160. We who write about photography owe a lot to Frederick Barnard, an advertising manager in the 1920s.

  163. The cameras are created in Thailand. Too bad lighting though and it will attempt to boost sensitivity even further or attempt to introduce black clipping, based on the metering. Overall, the Olympus Tough TG-2 iHS digital camera is a great value for the price. Because the camera utilizes a 25-point contrast autofocus as opposed to phase-detection, capturing action shots can be quite tough. Though it’s able to stave off common issues like trailing and artifacting, it cannot seem to keep a very sharp image. The 16-megapixel principal camera on the Nokia 6 is fast to lock focus and can capture excellent levels of detail when there’s enough light. Well, it’s truedepending on the way you use your own camera. The Sony cameras optionally incorporate a wireless LiveView wrist strap remote control that provides you a view of what the cameras see, and permits you to start and stop many cameras in exactly the same time. If you don’t have a Sony digital camera, you’re not totally out of luck. A camera draws a certain quantity of current, and a battery holds a specific amount of electricity. Deciding upon a hidden camera is something which constantly requires you to maintain a few crucial things in your mind. Folks turn to hidden cameras for plenty of distinct targets, whether they are attempting to compile evidence in case of a house break-in, or want to keep a closer eye on the nanny who watches their children while they’re on the job.

  164. Sony provides a good deal of digital cameras and is among the biggest manufactures of digital cameras worldwide. The ideal place to find Sony camcorders, DSLR’s and mirrorless digital cameras it is an amazing brand that offers a range of devices acceptable for many different people and budgets. It has beenpumping out amazing cameras for the past few years. How a camera feels in the hand is an enormous element in what type of shots you’re most likely to become from it. The Sony a6000-series cameras are really similar in dimension and configuration. Sony’s new highest-end cameras utilize the more compact E-mount. With three main kinds of Sony digital cameras, you will have to make sure that the camera matches with your wants and requirements. To be able to compensate for the lack of better sensitivity due to their small sensors, the majority of the bridge cameras have an image stabilizer system imbibed from the scheme of things so that it’s ready to face up to more exposures. Mirrorless cameras are now hugely popular lately. These trendy and compact cameras epitomize the expression factor-and-shoot. It’s certainly the very best 4K camera out there before you commence considering committed professional video cameras.
