The Doors - Doors

The Doors, one of the most influential and controversial rock bands of the 1960s, were formed in Los Angeles in 1965 by UCLA film students Ray Manzarek, keyboards, and Jim Morrison, vocals; with drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger. The group never added a bass player, and their sound was dominated by Manzarek's electric organ work and Morrison's deep, sonorous voice, with which he sang and intoned his highly poetic lyrics. The group signed to Elektra Records in 1966 and released its first album, The Doors, featuring the hit "Light My Fire," in 1967.

A tremendous debut album, and indeed one of the best first-time outings in rock history, introducing the band's fusion of rock, blues, classical, jazz, and poetry with a knock-out punch. The lean, spidery guitar and organ riffs interweave with a hypnotic menace, providing a seductive backdrop for Jim Morrison's captivating vocals and probing prose. "Light My Fire" was the cut that topped the charts and established the group as stars, but most of the rest of the album is just as impressive, including some of their best songs: the propulsive "Break on Through" (their first single), the beguiling Oriental mystery of "The Crystal Ship," the mysterious "End of the Night," "Take It as It Comes" (one of several tunes besides "Light My Fire" that also had hit potential), and the stomping rock of "Soul Kitchen" and "Twentieth Century Fox." The 11-minute Oedipal drama "The End" was the group at its most daring and, some would contend, overambitious. It was nonetheless a haunting cap to an album whose nonstop melodicism and dynamic tension would never be equaled by the group again, let alone bettered.

Nico - The Marble Index

One of the most fascinating figures of rock's fringes, Nico hobnobbed, worked, and was romantically linked with an incredible assortment of the most legendary entertainers of the '60s.
The paradox of her career was that she herself never attained the fame of her peers, pursuing a distinctly individualistic and uncompromising musical career that was uncommercial, but wholly admirable and influential.

In 1965, she attracted the attention of Rolling Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham, who gave her a chance to record for his Immediate label, though the resulting single, which also featured Brian Jones and Jimmy Page on guitars, flopped. Shortly afterward, she moved to New York, where Andy Warhol installed her as a vestigial presence and occasional lead singer for the Velvet Underground. The band never really accepted her as a bona fide member and she departed in 1967, but not before contributing unforgettable deadpan vocals to three of the songs on their classic 1967 debut album.

Nico embarked on a solo career, recording folk-rock-flavored songs for her debut Chelsea Girl album with assistance from Jackson Browne, Lou Reed, and John Cale. Her 1969 follow-up, The Marble Index, was a dramatic departure that unveiled her doom-laden, gothic persona, produced by Cale and prominently featuring her deep vocals, impenetrable lyrics, and ghostly harmonium.

The Sisters of Mercy - Floodland (remastered)

The Sisters Of Mercy es una banda musical surgida de Leeds (York) en 1980 cuando Andrew Eldritch (Andrew Taylor) y Gary Marx (Mark Pearman) decidieron formar un grupo con el fin de escucharse en la radio, asi es como realizaron su primer single The Damage Done, el cual, realizado con unos medios bastante pobres, tenía una calidad deficiente. Afortunadamente la aventura continuó, Andrew dejo la bateria y paso a las voces y llegaron nuevos miembros como Benn Gun o John Langford, durante estos primero años graban singles como, Body Electric (1982), Alice(1983), Anaconda(1983), The Reptile House E.P.(1983), Temple of Love(1983), o Body & Soul(1984), estos miembros fueron provisionales hasta llegar en 1984 a una formación final compuesta de:


  • Andrew Eldritch (voz)
  • Gary Marx (guitarra)
  • Wayne Hussey (guitarra)
  • Graig Adams (bajo)
  • Doktor Avalanche (bateria) (no es una persona, así se le denomió en el grupo a la caja de ritmos empleada, en un primer momento un -Roland TR-606-, en el primer LP se cambió a un -Oberheim DMX- y por último un -Yamaha RX5).

Con esta formación llega su primer LP "First & Last & Always" publicado en Marzo de 1985. Ya con una reputación ganada en numeros conciertos ofrecidos en toda Europa, este disco supuso el asentamiento en las islas británicas y sobre todo dentro del movimiento conocido Gothic Rock del cual son actualmente el grupo más representativo y por ello influencian a muchas bandas (The Merry Thoughts, Suspiria, James Ray, Love Like Blood, Still Patient, Nosferatu, Star Industry y muchas otras) creando un estilo sisters. Este disco llegaría al numero 14 en las listas inglesas.


Sin embargo durante la gira Tune in, Turn on, Burn out ... surgieron problemas entre los miembros de la banda ofreciendo el 18 de Junio de 1985 en el Royal Albert Hall de Londres el que sería su último concierto con esta formación, no volverían a tocar hasta 1990. La banda explotó y de ella surgieron dos bandas, Ghostdance (Gary Marx) y The Mission (Wayne Hussey y Graig Adams), no sin que antes se produjesen problemas legales sobre la propiedad del nombre, el cual finalmente quedo en manos de Andrew Eldritch.

Con esta formación se publicó el segundo álbum de la banda, "Floodland",en Noviembre de 1987, un LP que les llevó a un éxito muy amplio, llegando canciones como " This Corrosion" a entrar en las listas de éxitos de Inglaterra con el número 13. Fue este disco el que más fama internacional les proporcionó. Un disco apoyado en la producción de Jim Steinman y en los coros de la New York Choral Society los cuales proporcionan al disco un ambiente muy grandilocuente. En este disco aparece una de las composiciones más peculiares de los sisters, "1959"(nacimiento de Andrew).
Disfruta de este gran álbum en su versión remasterizada y expandida, realizada en 2006 directamente de las cintas de estudio originales y a la cual se le añadieron 4 bonus tracks: 'Torch', 'Colours', 'Never Land (Full lenght)' y 'Emma'.
