The Plague that Makes Your Booty Move

The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move...It's the Infectious Grooves is the debut album by Infectious Grooves, released in 1991. The Infectious Grooves are a funk metal band led by Suicidal Tendencies frontman Mike Muir. Though Muir's sense of humor was often obvious with Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves often brought out a goofier type of humor: their albums contain comedy skits by a reptilian lover named Aladdin Sarsippius Sulemenagic Jackson the third. The album mixes hyperactive Chili Pepper funk with traditional metal (including an appearance by Ozzy Osbourne on "Therapy") and Suicidal's skatepunk thrash. The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move was an unabashed good-time party record. The Infectious Grooves have been on hiatus since the release of their fourth album, 2000's Mas Borracho but Muir has stated that the band is working on new material. Highly recommended.

The Lead and How to Swing It

The Welshman refuses to age gracefully, and more power to him. His Art of Noise collaboration on Prince's "Kiss" showed the way in '88. On this 1994 album Jones teams with Trevor Horn, Flood, Youth, Teddy Riley, and Jeff Lynne. He makes an unconvincing fly boy on the Riley tracks, but shines in a campier, upbeat context with "If I Only Knew," the monstrous club track "A Girl Like You" and a powerful duet with Tori Amos, "I Wanna Get Back With You."

Every time that you think Tom has run his course, he reinvents himself and makes yet another comeback. Da man truly does have a voice and staying power. I, for one, am a huge fan.

Electric Angels

Formed from the ashes of the band Candy, the Electric Angels managed to bring some class back to the world of hard rock with a sound in the same vein as Hanoi Rocks and the Rolling Stones. Kiss' Bruce Kulick produced the group's first demos, which promptly landed them a deal with Atlantic records. Their self-titled debut was produced by Tony Visconti and released in 1990. They were reviewed favorably as a cross between The Replacements and Hanoi Rocks. Despite being a great debut effort and backed by constant touring, the debut album (and first single "Rattlesnake Kisses") didn't make many waves commercially. Their record label wanted the band to demo new material, and a second album was prepared. But record company politics led to the album being shelved. The band was dropped in 1991, before they could record their second album, which was to be called New York Times.

That's a damn shame too. I discovered EA back in 1991 whilst perusing a bargain bin at a record store(AKA the cutout bin). Having never heard of these guys, I thought some of the song titles were were interesting so for a 99 cents, it got purchased. When I got home and played the disc, I discovered I had purchased a well crafted and rockin' album for mere peanuts. Over the years I played this disc over and over and wished these guys had been able to do more.

I covered this band on my other blog a while back and much to my surprise I received an email from the former bass player Jonathan Daniels. He said, "I'm a big fan of your blog so I was naturally very excited to see you mention our band!
Thanks and I hope you keep the blog going. Its an awesome stroll down memory lane." Cool eh. This is an excellent album and very rare, difficult to find. Enjoy.

No Guts No Glory

No Guts...No Glory is the fifth studio album by Molly Hatchet, released in 1983. Failed experiment Jimmy Farrar on lead vocals is gone and original vocalist Danny Joe Brown returns for this recording. This album saw the band return to its more overt southern style it had displayed on its debut record in 1978. Right away on the first track "What Does It Matter?", in the opening riffs, Danny lets loose with his banter, and there's no mistaking who's on vocals. However, with the addition of keyboards into the mix, the band managed to take this sound to an even more orchestrated approach on some songs such as Dave Hlubek's master piece "Fall of the Peacemakers". Critics hailed the "No Guts....No Glory" album as the band's true return to form. The record went largely unnoticed as southern rock was on the decline in popularity and the band had alienated a lot of fans with the prior two albums. But it's a gooder and a true Hatchet album. It is their only album not to feature an epic, fantasy themed cover.

Tuff Darts

Tuff Darts released their one and only album in 1978. This is an awesome album and has been a cult classic for years. This was a band straight outta the same CBGBs scene that gave us The Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads etc. Unfortunately this is the only album they recorded but it's a doozy. I never get tired of listening to this one because it's so darn fun. If nothing else tracks 3,7 and 12 are must have for any serious music fan.

These Are the Good Times People

These Are the Good Times People is the fifth album by The Presidents of the United States of America. It was released on March 11, 2008.  I thoroughly enjoy listening to this album. These songs have a habit of sticking in your head all day. I absolutely love the upbeat feel and the irreverent lyrics about everyday observances and find myself humming these songs all day long. I love it. Bugs, butterflies, and troglobytes! From the first song to the kick ass final track, there ain't a bad one on this gem. Pure pop genius.

Christmas Island

Christmas Island is Jimmy Buffett's 1996 collection of Christmas-themed music. It features covers of popular Christmas songs in Buffett's musical stylings as well as two tracks which Buffett wrote for the album.

This is a good album of Christmas music done the way you would think Jimmy Buffett Christmas music would sound. You know, country rock meets calypso. Parrotheads should love it, but other people will probably enjoy it, too. There is a hidden bonus track at the end of the album, which is Jimmy reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas".

Barenaked for the Holidays

A great holiday album by Canada's Barenaked Ladies. I actually listen to it all year round. I get weird looks when playing it in the middle of summer. The album includes Christmas and Hanukkah songs as well as "Auld Lang Syne", which is traditionally sung on New Year's Eve. There are also several songs that are simply about the winter season. This one and Mojo's is all you need for the holidays.

A Christmas Album

A Christmas Album is the seventh album by Christian music singer Amy Grant, released in 1983. Mrs. homercat has always been a fan of Amy Grant and has many of her albums on vinyl and this is one of them. I have recently become a fan of hers mainly due to the fact that I listened to her albums while I was ripping them from vinyl. I was honestly amazed at how good she was and was sorry I ever poo pooed her Christian and secular music. Several of her songs have made it to my all time favorite songs list. A Christmas Album was issued on the heels of Grant's immensely successful 1982 LP Age to Age. Primarily for the audiences she attracted with Age to Age, this album featured well-known religious and secular standards alongside her own original songs.
