Samsung Odyssey G9 dimming and flickering when browsing web by Thinkscape in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]flyryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's so frustrating. I love this monitor when it works (which IS most of the time), but the intermittent issues are extremely annoying. My entire setup is built around this monitor and there really isn't any other comparable alternative on the market. It feels like I'm stuck.

With how expensive this thing was, these deficiencies are pretty ridiculous. It's nuts that we have to just cross our fingers and wait.

I'm SO happy I found this post. Thank you for your work on this. These are issues I've seen off and on but it's been so hard to pin down what was causing them.

I see dimming on all of these. I'm running an RTX-3090 with 1008.1 firmware on the G9. I currently have V-Sync off because Zoom is unusable with it on (another super annoying problem that doesn't seem to be isolated to the G9). HDR is on.

Is our only recourse here a replacement? Getting this thing out from my desk and shipping it back to Samsung would be a colossal pain with my current setup.

You're having hard time grasping the concept of "having the right" not always meaning the "kind thing to do".

There are tons of things you can legally do that still make you an asshole if you do them. I'd say encroaching on someone's legroom when you aren't using the extra space falls in that category.

AITA for "forcing" my BIL to hold my baby (his nephew) just for a bit, while I was folding laundry and traumatizing my BIL, I honestly didn't know the reason why he was so reluctant. by aita2187939127407100 in AmItheAsshole

the question isn't "should he have helped" the question is "was it unreasonable to ask for help or assume he would help" and the answer is no. it was not unreasonable to assume he would help.

Yes. It. Was.

Let me contextualize your question; "Was it unreasonable to ask/force him to disregard the ONE and ONLY condition he set for being able to live in his house for free?"

It doesn't matter what it is. It's an asshole move to disregard someone's clear boundaries. She didn't just ask him to hold her baby. She forced him to do the one thing she agreed to not ask him to. You really think that what she did is ok just because he didn't open up the wounds of his trauma to explain his reasoning for the boundary he set?

To me, this is beyond being an asshole. This is grounds for being kicked out of the house.

Just as a heads up, this is not true for everything. I too thought only the yellow ones even mattered and the rest were filler but I had a mission recently that opened an entirely new objective through the blue conversation. I learned some really detailed information that let me explore a new location and get a better outcome. The yellow is what progressed the game but I had more to do because of dialogue from one of the blue paths.

Ehh, it's still not quite 4K. Even accounting for the widescreen resolution, it still has significantly less pixels than a 16:9 2160p screen. The G9 (which is even wider) also has about a million less pixels than a 4K display. That's really not a bad thing though. That results in higher framerates and better looking rendering. I've been more than happy with the resolution.

It is USB-C. :-) It's my primary controller (both on PC and my XB1). It also has the grips on the triggers too. The Series 2 also has 3 levels of trigger pull instead of 2 like the Gen 1. The middle one is really nice.

However, the battery is no longer removable. Hasn't been an issue for me yet because the battery life is great but still feels like a feature loss.

Ahhh I see! Aren't all of those features already true for the Elite Controller though? I thought they just brought them from the Elite to the standard controller. I think the Elite Series 2 still checks all of those boxes.

Ahh my bad. You mean like the Xbox app on Windows. I thought you were referring to All Access which is literally a monthly subscription where you get the XBox Series S/X console.

The new tech isn't even really about "quality". 3D Audio is about the ability for developers to attach sounds to objects in the game world instead of assigning them to speakers. The hardware then determines, by object, where its sound should be broadcast from. It really makes a wild difference when you can now not only account for sounds around you but above you and below you as well. It really changes how good "surround sound" can be. When wearing headphones (or with a really nice atmos system), the sounds come from the exact spot you'd expect them to.

Game Pass and All Access are two different things. All Access is the one that includes the console. Game Pass Ultimate is included in All Access.

Elite controllers have had 4 back peddles since the original version... The Series 2 even improved on them.

They are also completely removable and configurable. You can use two shorts and two longs in whatever configuration you want.

The Last Children of Down Syndrome: Prenatal testing is changing who gets born and who doesn’t. This is just the beginning. by swirleyswirls in TrueReddit

[–]flyryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can have it both ways. First, there is an entire debate to have about a fetus and if it is actually alive that doesn't apply to a felon on death row. Then there are arguments about capital punishment being wrong that don't even involve the debate of life being sacred. You have boiled two complex issues down to a single issue (life is or isn't sacred) and that's just not the totality of the argument.

For example, I'm against capital punishment for several reasons but the main one is that we have a proven track record of putting innocent people on death row. Some estimates say the number is as high as 15%. That is just a ridiculous number and that alone is enough for me to be against it.

That right there is an example of a situation where I can believe life isn't sacred (I'm not saying that, but just for the sake of argument here...) but still be against the death penalty. There is another entirely different argument about if an "eye for an eye" approach to justice benefits society.

Ultimately, my point is that your premise is just false on its surface. Abortion and capital punishment are both extremely nuanced and complex issues and a majority of those issues don't overlap with each other. You can't just make a blanket argument that being against one necessitates being against the other. That's just not true.

Yeah this is just a mixup of terms. He is not 1099 and that link doesn't apply to his situation. He is a full-time employee of his company. The government has a contract with his company to fill positions in a gov office. He is a "contractor" in the sense that he works for a government contractor instead of being a federal employee that works for the government directly. He receives benefits from his employer and is not an "independent contractor" in that sense.

What!? You don't think you can be pro-choice but against capital punishment at the same time? How does that even make sense? They are completely unrelated and the reasoning behind each couldn't be more different. You're boiling them both down to "it's ok to end a life" when both topics are way more nuanced than that and the arguments for/against both are completely unrelated.

I think it's the complaining about it being more difficult for a white person to get on when it's been systemically difficult for POCs to get on in the past. It comes across pretty privileged when you complain about a new disadvantage that is the result of correcting disadvantages others have dealt with for years.

Looked at the Instagram and its just some pics of cats with a user name on a piece of paper (only a couple of them). The website linked is completely dead.

So you are saying to have actually seen evidence of cat torture/animal abuse? Like, you saw this site before it was taken down? Are there screenshots anywhere of it actually existing?

I remember when the Luka Magnotta thing was going down. There were pics and vids everywhere and it was very easy to trace. None of that exists here that I've seen but I'm happy to be proven wrong.

I don't think you are karma farming. I think this person is. Just look at their account.

Edit: I just ran a whois on the domain. It was registered on October 31st. It's brand new.

I went to the Instagram. It is basically brand new and only has a few images on it. The link leads to a dead site. Again, nothing that proves it's real and a lot of evidence to the contrary.
