Walter Bond now living in a halfway house and doing well

Walter Bond transferred out of prison on June 17 and is now residing in a halfway house. He is doing well and is focused on a number of practical matters to get his affairs in order. The halfway house is much more comfortable than prison. A number of his friends have been key to his transition, helping him shop, bringing him personal items, helping with job leads and giving him hugs.

We want to help Walter so much now that he is finally released from 10 years of prison, where he was confined as punishment for property damages to businesses that profited from animal exploitation. Walter is exceptional at expressing in words what animal liberationists and animal rights activists long for and need to hear. Not only did he embody the ALF approach of warring against animal exploitation, he continued activism while in prison by communicating with his supporters. By opening up about his personal life and evolution, we have been able to perceive our own personal connections to the animal liberation movement and refine our understanding and efforts.

Walter is expected to spend the next several months living in the halfway house and then independently with monitoring. After that he will be on probation for 3 years. If there are any significant developments, it will be reported on supportwalter.org. Meanwhile, any further donations to help Walter reestablish his life can be made via PayPal or check. http://supportwalter.org/SW/index.php/donate/

One Last Word From Prison

Message:

I am scheduled to be released from prison to a halfway house in my home city and state of Denver, Colorado on June 18th of 2020. Suffice it it say I am anxious to leave prison and also nervous. I have no family left in Colorado, I have no car, I have no job and very little money. Whatsmore, is the last time I was free was 2010. But ultimately I have faith in my abilities and the community of friends and supporters I have picked up along the way. I feel that now is a good time for me to give a little bit of a retrospective as well as where I am at today, and also a little bit of context to my time in prison.

I was arrested in 2010 for a string of arsons spanning Colorado and Utah which I did commit under the moniker ALF (Animal Liberation Front) ‘Lone Wolf’. Before that I worked for a local chain of health food stores and spent my spare time as a volunteer at various Animal sanctuaries as well as Vegan outreach and public education about the plight of Animals at the hands of human oppressors. I did very little protest activity in my long career as an activist, I always preferred to work directly with Animals. However, I became increasingly frustrated and impatient with the issues that Animals suffer and was no longer willing to stand by peacefully. I took illegal direct action in the form of arson against businesses that traffic in Animal products. Continue reading

Ninth anniversary of Walter Bond’s sentencing in Denver Colorado on Feb 11, 2011

Sheepskin Factory

Before he was sentenced by the judge on that day 9 years ago, Walter Bond said this …

Statement to the court in Denver, Colorado, February 11, 2011

I’m here today because I burnt down the Sheepskin Factory in Glendale, CO, a business that sells pelts, furs and other dead Animal skins.

I know many people think I should feel remorse for what I’ve done. I guess this is the customary time where I’m suppose to grovel and beg for mercy. I assure you if that’s how I felt I would.

But, I am not sorry for anything I have done. Nor am I frightened by this court’s authority. Because any system of law that values the rights of the oppressor over the down trodden is an unjust system.

And though this court has real and actual power, I question its morality.

I doubt the court is interested in the precautions that I took to not harm any person or by-stander and even less concerned with the miserable lives that sheep, cows and mink had to endure, unto death, so that a Colorado business could profit from their confinement, enslavement, and murder. Eighth anniversary of Walter Bond’s statement to the federal court in Utah before being sentenced on October 13, 2011

On October 13, 2011

Federal District Court, Salt Lake City, Utah

Walter Bond’s Statement at his Sentencing

I’m here today because of the arsons I committed at The Tandy Leather Factory in Salt Lake City, and the Tiburon Restaurant in Sandy, Utah which sells the incredibly cruel product foie gras. The US Attorney wants to give me the maximum sentence and beyond, not because of my ‘crimes,’ but because I am unrepentant and outspoken.

My intuition tells me that this court is not going to show me mercy because I became ‘suddenly sorry.’  So instead of lying to the court in a feeble attempt to save myself, as I’m certain many do when they face their sentencing day, allow me to tell you what I am sorry for. Continue reading

The End of Anarchy

The End Of Anarchy

I have for half my life had an on again, off again relationship with anarchism. And various factions of anarchism have also had an on again, off again relationship with me. But this has now come to an end. I can no longer, in good faith, have ANYTHING to do with the polyglot mish mash of political and ideological insanity that is anarchism. Not with it’s groups, it’s thought, not of it’s ideologies and not it’s individuals. Continue reading

Support Walter Bond

Hello Everyone,
This year makes my 9th year in federal prison for my actions in the underground for Animal Liberation. The good news is that at some point next year I will be released. Exactly when is to early to tell but just like everything in the Federal Bureau of Prisons when I am eligible for release to a halfway house and to which city that will be is a mysterious and inconsistent bureaucratic process that varies from prisoner to prisoner. And from what I have witnessed over the years it’s a process that has no rhyme or reason. But whether in the middle or the end, I will be coming home next year. Continue reading
