About DCBC

The Dismantle, Change, Build Center (DCBC) is a new space that serves as a home base for community organizing in NE Portland, located at 14 NE Killingsworth St, Portland, OR 97211. In the spirit of reflecting the collective world we are building toward, a number of racial and social justice grassroots organizations hold and manage DCBC together. The name Dismantle, Change, Build draws from Critical Resistance’s abolitionist framework to dismantle the prison industrial complex (PIC), change the common sense practices around what safety and security truly mean for communities, and build the resources and alternatives to the PIC.

Prior to becoming DCBC, the space was formerly the In Other Words Feminist Community Center and Bookstore. Upon learning of its closure, CR PDX moved quickly to take over the lease and partner with community organizations to protect and revitalize one of Portland’s community spaces with a new collective leadership and rent model.
