Opening Statement
There is a need for something truly new and original to be born out of the independence movement that can manifest itself at the ballot box in 2016 and beyond. We do not presume to have all of the answers, but we intend to start a conversation around certain core principles that must be represented in politics once more.
That is why this project is being launched. It will be based on the principles of radical social change: participatory democracy, democratic public ownership, the redistribution of wealth and power from the rich to the poor and full independence from the British state and its monarch.
About the Left Project
The Scottish Left Project aims to build a united, credible alternative to neoliberal politics in Holyrood without sacrificing the need for a united challenge to Westminster's corruption and imperialism.
Although at a tentative stage, our immediate aims reflect the best goals of the independence movement. We are constructing a replacement for Labour that truly reflects the needs of Scotland's working class, and a policy program that reflects the needs of European societies to escape skyrocketing inequality, anti-immigrant hysteria, endless war, and the degradation of democracy.
We believe a consensus is emerging behind these aims, not just in Scotland but across many parts of Europe. This is why we have opened a space to discuss how to implement a consensus of ideas in practice.
