WLUML is looking for a Peacebuilding Campaign Intern

Overview:

Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) transnational feminist solidarity network seeks interns to support the works of its Campaign: No Peace without Women’s Rights: Breaking the Cycle of Conflict in Afghanistan and Beyond. The intern is expected to work roughly 10 hours a week for a period of four months with the potential to extend. This position will report to one of the lead  Campaign Committee coordinators.

 

About WLUML:

Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) is a transnational feminist solidarity network

that promotes human rights and gender justice and equality for people whose lives are shaped, conditioned, or governed by patriarchal and/or authoritarian interpretations of Islam.

 

Responsibilities:

WLUML is launching a campaign in support of Afghan women’s effective engagement in peace talks with the Taliban, promoting long-lasting and just peace that does not compromise the human rights of women and equality among its citizens. We are looking for imaginative and committed interns to help develop a communication strategy and material for this timely and important campaign. Tasks may include; organizing webinars and other virtual gatherings, producing campaign posters and visual material and assisting with social media and online communications. You may also be required to conduct public debates on Afghan women’s campaigns inside and outside Afghanistan. Familiarity with the UN and experience with non-profit sectors is an advantage. The internship would be for 4 months, with the possibility to extend. 

 

Required Skills:

●      Excellent attention to detail

●      Knowledge and experience of working with Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, or other relevant programs

●      Willingness to research sister campaigns and establish liaison with them

●      Strong command of English language

●      Ability to think creatively and independently

●      Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work as a team

●      Hard worker and a quick learner

●      Interested in peacebuilding.

●      Kind, empathetic, and a good listener

 

Other Desired Skills:

●      Experience with campaigning and advocacy  research

●      Familiarity with the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and  /or working with the UN directly or indirectly.  

●      Ability to read and speak other languages, such as Persian, Urdu, Arabic, Turkish, and French would be a major asset.

 

 

Duration: six months with the possibility to extend
