Overview on Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails

Karim Younes is the longest serving Palestinian prisoner still in detention. He has now spent 32 years in Israeli occupation jails. Karim Younes is scheduled to be released end of March 2014, in the last phase of releases of pre-Oslo prisoners. 5000 Palestinian prisoners continue awaiting their freedom hoping they will not break world records in longest periods of political detention.

Ahmed Saadat, Secretary General of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was abducted from Jericho Prison in 2006, in violation of an international agreement. The Inter-Parliamentary Union called repeatedly for his release. He is imprisoned alongside a dozen other Members of the Palestinian Legislative Council, in an unacceptable attack against Palestinian democracy.

175 Palestinians are held under administrative detention, including 9 Members of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Administrative detention is a procedure that allows the military to hold prisoners indefinitely on secret information without charging them or allowing them to stand trial.
