Tim Krul signs new Newcastle contract, joins Ajax on loan

Newcastle United have secured the services of goalkeeper Tim Krul until 2018 and loaned him to Ajax Amsterdam for the current campaign.

The 28-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury while playing for the Netherlands last October and the move to Ajax will give him regular first team football as his recovery continues.

For their part, Ajax were in need of a shot stopper after Jesper Cillessen completed his move to Barcelona to serve as the replacement for new Manchester City signing Claudio Bravo.

Krul has played 185 times for Newcastle to date since making his debut back in 2006 in the UEFA Cup against Palermo.

He also enjoyed loan spells at Scottish side Falkirk and then League One club Carlisle United before establishing himself as the first choice at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle are still well stocked between the posts with Belgian international Matz Sels, Irishman Rob Elliot, and Karl Darlow all on the books.
