NEW Priti Patel pointed the finger at the firms after the daily rate fell for a third consecutive day, saying 'upgrades' at factories and 'reconfiguring' of supply chains were causing delays. But she insisted 'incredible' progress was being made with more than four million people already covered, and it is still possible to keep to the schedule. The intervention came amid mounting confusion about the source of the problem, with just 204,000 people given their first dose yesterday, down from 225,000 on Sunday, 277,000 on Saturday and a high of 324,000 on Friday. In order to meet the target the government must average more than 350,000 doses a day from now until February 15, with the previous bullish tone from officials abruptly getting more anxious. Pfizer's supplies have been dented by a factory upgrade which will continue into next month, but there have been claims that 21million doses are already in the country, and Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of sitting on around 400,000 that have been delivered. MPs have also voiced frustration at the way supplies have been divvied out across the UK. In London the allocation is believed to have been based on takeup of last season's flu vaccine, which was relatively low. Meanwhile, there are complaints that the system is descending into a 'free for all' with council staff being given jabs before 70-somethings in some areas. The chaos has fuelled fears that lockdown measures will have to last longer, with suggestions that the earliest timetable for a significant easing has slipped 'beyond Easter'.

Trump 'wants to ditch the Republicans and start his own Patriot Party' after telling supporters his movement is 'just beginning' and GOP leaders including Mitch McConnell blamed him for the Capitol riot

The outgoing president, left, is said to have spoken with aides about the idea, The Wall Street Journal first reported. It is not known how serious he is in going ahead with the party, which would take a lot of time and money. Trump on Tuesday vowed to be a continued presence in D.C., noting his 'movement' is 'only just beginning'. But his vow to stay a force in politics could cause some Republicans to squirm; Trump divided Republicans among those whose supported his isolationist agenda and those who disliked his harsh rhetoric. Many Republicans want to see him fade quietly away but others fear his supporters - 74 million cast their ballot for Trump in November - could be an influence in the party's primaries for years to come. Mitch McConnell, right, said Tuesday Trump 'provoked' the crowd who stormed the Capitol two weeks ago.

Donald Trump: All the President's hits... and misses - surprisingly, there were SOME

As Donald Trump heads out of the White House today with the jeers of opponents drowning out his final boasts about his toughness on China and avoidance of new wars, few people need much reminding of what he got wrong. While the man who loves to boast that he's the ultimate winner - 'We revitalised our alliances and rallied the nations of the world to stand up to China like never before', he claimed last night - is now being dismissed as one of the White House's biggest losers, the idea that he got anything right sounds almost like heresy. But The Donald did sometimes deliver. Granted, he was abrasive when his allies wanted him to be emollient and some of his key achievements could so easily have backfired badly, but Trump occasionally got results that might have eluded a more measured leader. Which begs the question: might history remember Trump more kindly than his current critics?

The White House released 'Trump Administration Accomplishments' on the president's last day which skirts around 400,000 coronavirus deaths, a drop in unemployment post-virus, and Capitol riots.

Why 72% of black Britons say they are unlikely to have the Covid-19 jab, writes SIR

SIR GEOFF PALMER: Hurricanes were a feature of life when I was a boy growing up in Jamaica. And in their devastating aftermath, with buildings destroyed and water supplies and sewers damaged, diseases including polio, typhoid and TB often ran rife. So it was routine for me and my schoolmates to find ourselves queueing outside the church hall to receive our inoculations. As children, we did not understand the dangers of an epidemic sweeping our island. We never thought to question the church ministers, our teachers or our parents, who assured us the jabs were a necessary precaution. And why would we argue? We trusted those authority figures. We respected them. They had the best interests of our community at heart. How different is the situation for so many black people in Britain today, for whom those trusted figures are absent.

SARAH VINE: January was always going to be the hardest month in this pandemic, and so it has transpired. Yesterday Britain recorded its deadliest daily death toll.

Tony Blair's son Euan worth almost £73million after start-up Multiverse valued at

Tony Blair's son Euan (pictured inset with wife Suzanne Ashman) could now be worth almost £73million after the education technology start-up he founded was valued at £147million. The London-based firm, which finds apprenticeship places and provides training for non-graduate students, has announced plans for a global expansion after securing a new £32million investment. The investment values the company, re-named Multiverse from WhiteHat (pictured left: Euan Blair with co-founder of WhiteHat Sophie Adelman), at £147million. It means Mr Blair's son Euan, 37, who owns an almost 50 per cent stake in the firm, could now be worth up to £73million. THERESA MAY: Britain threatened to break the law. We abandoned our global moral

THERESA MAY: This week America inaugurates a new president, and the free world gains a new leader. In Joe Biden (pictured inset) and Kamala Harris, I believe Britain has partners for positive action to make our world a safer place. The US (pictured left: Outgoing president Donald Trump with Ms May, pictured right: Mr Trump with Boris Johnson) and the UK share enduring values: respect for human dignity and human rights, freedom of speech and thought, representative democracy, equality and the rule of law. These values have shaped our societies. In the past, we have had common cause to defend them. Today, those values are under threat once again - and once again, the UK has a responsibility to play its part in defending them.

Around 30 people were invited to the baby shower during the second national lockdown on November 23, according to customer services staff based at the station. They were informed about the event both on WhatsApp and in person on the day of the event.
