Description : John David Jackson (born November 18, 1977), known professionally as Fabolous, is an American rapper from Brooklyn, New York City. Jackson's career began when he was a senior in high school and ended up rapping live on American record producer and music executive DJ Clue's radio show, then on Hot 97. Jackson was subsequently signed by DJ Clue to his label Desert Storm, and later secured a distribution deal with Elektra Records. A sprightly pop band from the Camden borough of London, Kawala found success in 2018 when their percussive indie folk-inflected single "Do It Like You Do" became a streaming hit. Thanks to their bright, melodic style, they have earned comparisons to bands like Bombay Bicycle Club and Glass Animals.

Kawala were initially formed as an acoustic duo by singer Jim Higson and guitarist/singer Daniel McCarthy, who studied music together at university in Leeds before heading back to North London to immerse themselves in the local music scene. A 2015 appearance on the popular Mahogany Sessions video series raised their profile significantly, and they soon fleshed out the band with the addition of lead guitarist Dan Lee, bassist Reeve Coulson, and drummer Ben Batten.

Kawala issued their debut single, "Small Death," in 2017, following it in early 2018 with "Do It Like You," becoming a streaming success in the process. As Kawala picked up steam throughout 2018, they began making festival appearances at Live at Leeds and The Great Escape, eventually releasing their debut EP, D.I.L.Y.D., later that summer on Mahogany Records.

As a member of Baltimore rap trio Peso Da Mafia, Shordie Shordie got a quick start in the music world, branching out solo shortly after his group released their first mixtape. His 2018 mixtape Captain Hook found Shordie Shordie approaching relationship issues and street struggles from interesting perspectives and with a distinctively grainy flow that jumped between rapping and singing.

Shordie Shordie was born RaQuan Hudson in 1996. Raised in Baltimore, Hudson had almost no interest in rapping until he formed Peso Da Mafia in 2015 with his brother Lor Dee and their cousin PDM Purp. The group's 2017 single "Money Man" was a regional hit, due in part to the dance that accompanied the song. Peso Da Mafia's first mixtape, Never a Drought, appeared in 2018, and Shordie Shordie was already working on solo material. He released several singles that year, including "Lonely" and "Holidays", but it was "Betchua (Bitchuary)," a melodic trappy tune about unfaithful partners, that caught on the most, streaming in the tens of millions in a short time. This song opened the floodgates for Shordie Shordie, and he released his debut mixtape, Captain Hook, later that year.

Melding edgy, introspective indie rock with a soulful delivery, Newcastle native Sam Fender rose to British acclaim in late 2017 when he appeared on the coveted BBC Sound of 2018 list and was subsequently signed to Polydor Records.

Born and raised in North Shields, just outside of Newcastle, Fender came from a musical family. After gigging locally, he was discovered by Ben Howard's manager, who helped pave the road for Fender's debut single, "Play God." Moody in tone and socially conscious, it was followed by two more singles, "Greasy Spoon" and "Millennial," before the BBC named Fender alongside acts like Sigrid and Lewis Capaldi for their Sound of 2018 list. Tours with Hozier and Catfish and the Bottlemen followed, as did 2018 singles like "Leave Fast" and "That Sound," both of which later appeared on his EP, Dead Boys. It was released by Polydor in November of that year.

At the beginning of 2019, Fender entered his own studios in his home town of North Shields, to record his debut album. Produced by friend Bramwell Bronte, the resulting release, Hypersonic Missiles, was issued in mid-2019, preceded by the Springsteen-inspired single of the same name.

A successful DJ who has gone on to become an in-demand producer, CID (aka Carlos Cid) was born in Queens, New York. He developed a passion for house and dance music at an early age; when he was 11, he was regularly hopping the bus to record stores where he could listen to the latest dance singles and chat with DJs who were stocking up on new material. CID was just 12 years old when he started DJ'ing himself, and as he matured, he developed an estimable reputation, spinning at major events in the New York area. In time, CID was performing across the country and in Europe as he began making inroads into producing and remixing. In 2012, CID earned a Grammy Award for his work on Cedric Gervais' remix of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness," and the success of the track boosted his profile. Soon CID was collaborating with artists such as Kaskade, Sharam, and Tiësto, both in the studio and on-stage. CID next began recording and releasing material under his own name. With such successes as "Us" (with Kaskade), "Sweet Memories" (another collaboration with Kaskade), "Together," and "Secrets" (with Conrad Sewell), 2016 proved to be a breakout year for him.

Known for his lyrics concerning both streetwise thinking and luxurious lifestyles, Avelino (first name, Achi) is a British rapper from Tottenham, North London. He made his first appearance on the scene in the early 2010s, after uploading videos of himself freestyling under the moniker AA. He released his first mixtape, Underdog Music, via More Music Records in 2013 and followed with his sophomore effort, 2014's Iconic Ambition, which earned him more exposure on the urban scene throughout London and the South East. The release featured the track "No Comment," a collaboration with Croydon rapper Bonkaz and grime heavyweight Stormzy. Achi then went on to open for Stormzy on a nationwide tour in 2015. That same year, the rapper put out another mixtape, Young Fire, Old Flame, with Wretch 32 via the London-based OddChild Music. Both rappers delivered a freestyle set for BBC Radio 1's Fire in the Booth show to promote the tape. Avelino returned in 2016 with his first solo EP, titled FYO. The record was produced with North London rapper Raf Riley and featured a guest appearance from MC Neat. The same year also saw Avelino featured on Wretch 32's third full-length, Growing Over Life. He returned with the track "Energy" featuring Skepta and Stormzy in early 2017 to promote the EA Sports game FIFA 18. Avelino's third mixtape, No Bullshit, was released that fall via OddChild Music and More Music Records.

With a sound that merges the plaintiveness of post-hardcore with the punishing heaviness of metalcore, Bury Tomorrow attack listeners from all fronts with their emotionally charged metal assault. Offsetting layers of pleasant, atmospheric melody with sudden bursts of chugging heaviness, the band uses its breakdowns to create a brooding, moody effect, as if the songs are lurching into a fit when provoked from their somber ruminations. Emerging in 2007, the band topped the charts in their U.K. homeland with the release of their third effort, 2014's Runes, which also did well overseas. Subsequent efforts did little to temper the fire, delivering huge blasts of melodic metalcore with extreme prejudice.

A shared love of heavy metal and, more specifically, metalcore, ensured that the members of While She Sleeps continued the bond they formed at school in Sheffield, England long after their final exams were over. In 2006, singer Jordan "The Face" Widdowson, drummer Adam Savage, bassist Aaran McKenzie, and guitarists Mat Welsh and Sean Long decided to get together after playing in various other groups in the area. The bandmembers played shows regularly for the next three years, and Widdowson eventually bowed out, leaving the door open for Lawrence Taylor to step in on vocals.

 While She Sleeps went into the studio with producer Carl Bown in November 2011 and recorded their debut full-length, This Is the Six. The album, released in 2012, was a huge step up sonically for the band, displayed best on the anthemic title track and lead single. In the months leading up to the release of This Is the Six, While She Sleeps played the Download Festival and won the Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer. Brainwashed, the band's much-anticipated sophomore outing, dropped in 2015 and featured the singles "New World Torture," "Four Walls," "Trophies of Violence," and "Our Legacy." September 2016 saw the release of "Civil Isolation," the first single from their crowd-funded third studio long-player, You Are We, which arrived in May of the following year.

A little jet-lagged, he had flown in from Berlin the night before and hopped an early train from New York to Washington, D.C.

But Levit easily slipped into his Beethoven zone – a space he knows all too well. Levit, 32, has been playing the German composer's music for half his life. He recently released a box set of all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas and once again he'll be performing complete cycles of the sonatas in various cities to mark the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth in 2020.

Levit's set placed the oddball, wryly-humored Andante from the neglected Tenth Sonata between two of the most famous pieces of western music: the opening movement of Beethoven's "Moonlight" Sonata and the tender, ubiquitous, bagatelle better known as "Für Elise."

Levit's "Moonlight" emphasized the mesmerizing qualities in the music, with its oscillating pulse, smoldering low end and tolling bells. The second piece proved Beethoven wasn't always the grumpy guy he's made out to be. His sly sense of humor percolates through the set of variations in a jaunty march rhythm, punctuated with a final, ironic, thundering chord. Levit closed with the ever popular "Für Elise." Sure, it's a "total eye-roller," Levit admits, but he also describes it as "one of the most beautiful treasures in the piano literature."

Here we see three distinct sides of Beethoven – foreboding, funny and fetching – from one of his most ardent and thoughtful advocates. Now what could be better than that as an overture to the big Beethoven year ahead?

Arguably the most influential and successful European thrash metal band despite some competition from outfits such as Sodom, Destruction and Tankard, Germany's Kreator are by far the most enduring. Like many of their European speed metal brethren, Kreator fused the big four's --Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer-- thrash innovations with Venom's proto-black metal imagery, sparked it with Motörhead's balls-out velocity, and capped it off with the nihilistic outlook typical of heavy metal since the seminal days of Black Sabbath. Kreator's career also mirrored speed metal's rising and waning fortunes: building from strength to strength throughout the 1980s culminating in two now classic albums, 1989's Extreme Aggression and the following year's Coma Of Souls. As the new decade gave birth to grunge, Kreator felt it necessary to evolve, spending most of the rest of the decade taking their collective foot off the gas and exploring various combinations of industrial, goth-rock, and alternative sounds culminating on 1999's post-metal Endorama. Its reception was their best received offering in nearly a decade and kicked off a creative rebirth at the dawn of the new century, evidenced by 2001's universally lauded comeback, Violent Revolution, from which they never turned back. Now in their fourth decade, Kreator are certified worldwide superstars who tour as widely and frequently as bands literally half their age, delivering standard-bearing recordings such as 2012's Phantom Antichrist.

Timothy Brown, New York, USA. Father’s debut album included the Top 20 US hit, ‘I’ll Do 4 U’, and a powerful scene-setter between Father and Lady Kazan. On his return in 1994 for a belated third album, Sex Is Law, he dropped the MC suffix he had previously employed. It tied in with a switch in image too, from lovers rock hip-hop to down and dirty gangsta pimp. Gimmicky raps such as ‘69’ were the order of the day, as Father perved his way through a succession of saucy rhymes. There was a nod to the New Jack Swing movement with tracks produced by Teddy Riley and Pete Rock, who added an En Vogue sample to ‘R&B Swinger’. Other samples included the Jackson 5’s ‘I Want You Back’. The sexual lyrics were given a brief respite on his duet with Little Shawn, ‘For The Brothers Who Ain’t Here’, a touching commemoration of loss in the ghetto.
