The art of Anthony Lister (b. 1979) is bold, shocking and created to generate strong reactions. Having started his path painting in the streets of Brisbane, the Australian artist is renowned today for an artistic practice that blends influences from various fields, including urban art, expressionism, pop art, and contemporary youth subcultures. Taking up the iconography and subject matter inherent to Western culture and making use of crude painting techniques blended with the vandalistic language of graffiti, Lister appropriates and reformats codes and languages in order to create a new proposal of grotesque contours brimming with creative energy that has been gaining form mainly through painting and drawing but which has also explored installation and video. He has showcased his work in both solo and group exhibitions around the world since 2000, being represented in various renowned public and private collections.
