    I finally finished reading (and annotating) ’s ‘Design Justice’ and what a great read this book is! As a queer theory, feminist theory, and critical race theory enthusiast, this truly felt like a thoughtful and thorough “critical design theory” piece of writing. (Thread.)

    At first, faces were collected via photography & researchers were meticulous about consent - with DL came large amounts of photos "in the wild", sourced by Web scrapes/surveillance. Even metrics evolved as DL led to a shift from matching to label/predicting face characteristics.
