Aid for German Flood Victims

infragalaxia

Parts of Western Germany have been hit with a historical flood that has caused widespread destruction and as of now (Thursday, July 15 2021) has cost 58 lives. (source, source, source)

Here’s a couple links to places where you can donate. These will be in German, so make sure you have a translating tool at hand.

I pulled all of these from official news websites, so they should be legit. I will add to this post if I come across more resources.

The death toll has risen to 81 today (July 16 2021), with 1300 people currently missing. The damages are catastrophic, and the media calls it “the worst flood of post-war Germany”. We’re currently fighting to keep the dams in the area from breaking to prevent even more destruction.

i know we're all probably past realizing this but can you believe that science has come to a point where we're coming up with all of these way better and way less harmful alternatives to things like plastic just for them to never be implemented on a large scale and instead be used in small and impractical situations that provide net zero benefit just because the companies that do produce plastic don't want to let go of their stranglehold on the markets.

this is what we mean when we say "capitalism prevents innovation" in all of its ability to apply to the real world and not in some weird theoretical context. at the end of the day, capitalists want to turn a profit. and they can't do that unless they buy out all the competition. going back to our plastic example, pretty much every executive in the plastic industry can agree that any widespread alternate to their product is gonna hurt their profits, so they can either choose to completely reform their companies and produce the alternative, or they can take the easy route and just spawn kill any plastic alternative kickstarter. this is what lenin meant by monopolies; it's not just one company, but a number of companies that can all agree that anything outside of their jurisdiction is Bad and needs to be neutralized. it's how entire industries can thrive despite the general population knowing that what they're doing is bad.

When Toni Morrison said the grandeur of life is the attempt, not the solution… And how she went on to explain that it’s about behaving as beautifully as one can under completely impossible circumstances. The power that has, you know? It’s really just the making room for what breathes in the presence of the attempt. In the coming-to-be.

Q: How do you survive whole in a world where we’re all victims of something?“

Ms. Morrison: Ummm, how do you survive whole–I can’t do this quickly, for one–how can you survive whole and when we’re victims of something, um. You know that’s a nice fat, eastern/western philosophical question about ‘how do you get through’?

Sometimes you don’t survive whole, you just survive in part. But the grandeur of life is that attempt, it’s not about that solution.

It is about being as fearless as one can, behaving as beautifully as one can, under completely impossible circumstances. It’s that, that makes it elegant. Good is more interesting. More complex, more demanding.

Evil is silly. It may be horrible but at the same time it’s not a compelling idea: it’s predictable, it needs a tuxedo, it needs blood, it needs fingernails, it’s all that costume, in order to get anybody’s attention.

But the opposite, which is survival, blossoming, endurance, those things are just more compelling intellectually, if not spiritually and they certainly are spiritually. This is more fascinating job.

We are already born. We are going to die. So you have to do something interesting that you respect in between.”

Don't talk about weight loss and diets to your daughter, don't talk about weight loss and diets around your daughter, don't comment on your daughter's weight, don't tell her she has to weigh herself every once in a while, don't ruin your daughter's relationship with food, don't make her feel bad about the way she looks. I'm sorry if diet culture fucked you up but please try to break the cycle instead of perpetuating it. Thanks.
