fan fiction is SO addicting to people with ADHD because our brains aren't innattentive, they're just constantly searching out sources of dopamine because we don't produce enough on our own. fan fiction supplies us with an endless archive of free stories - long and short - containing characters we already love and we can just devour story after story after story one after another and it feels SO GOOD.

“Radical”

enby-who-is-secretly-a-tree

Something that’s really struck me when studying history is how often basic human rights are considered “radical”. “Radical” Republicans wanted to abolish slavery in the Civil War era. Worker’s rights were considered “radical”. Giving women the right to vote was “radical”. Calling for racial equality was “radical”.

Saying that black people shouldn’t have to fear for their lives shouldn’t be radical. Being horrified by kids in cages shouldn’t be radical. Loving someone shouldn’t be radical. Being who I am shouldn’t be radical. Closing the wealth gap and supporting workers shouldn’t be radical. But apparently these things are.

In a society where injustice in the norm, justice is considered radical.

So am I radical? Hell yeah!

Reminder for you youngins who might be like “??” that many of the security measures that are standard on a global scale in airports these days came about as a direct result of 9/11.

2,977 people died on 9/11, and it permanently, enormously, changed things on a global scale.

On December 11th, 2020, there were 3,042 american lives lost to covid. And on Dec 10? There were 3,098 deaths. And the day before that? 3,261.

Just shy of ten thousand Americans have died in three days, from a disease whose spread could be slowed SIGNIFICANTLY by the use of masks and other very simple steps.

And yet i would be willing to bet that those who refuse fo wear masks/stay at home/practice social distancing/etc have never even hesitated at the increased security measures at airports. Because 3k people died in 9/11, dontcha know, and we have to make sure everyone is kept nice and safe, so that 9/11 never happens again.

Which, thats a fair statement!! 9/11 was fucking horrific.

But 3k people dying per day from a disease that these folks could help prevent the spread of, doesn’t hit them with quite the same level of urgency or empathy, apparently.
