Facebook removed video of Police Brutality in the Netherlands.
This Saturday, November 12th 2017, hundreds of anti-racism activists gathered in Rotterdam to protest the common use of black face during the holidays in the Netherlands. They did this in defiance of a protest ban which they deemed an unlawful suppression of their right to free speech.
Dutch police cornered several of their busses and arrested all 200+ protestors inside, forcing those on the busses to watch and wait while the first groups were arrested. Passive resistance to arrest was answered with police violence.
Today, facebook removed all posts containing a video of this police brutality. On this video a black man can be seen being dragged away with his mouth covered while a terrified woman screams “He’s covering his mouth! he’s choking him! no!”. Activists from the bus then try to step in and are punched in the face and hit with battons. A second black man in dragged out of the bus and punched to the ground by half a dozen (all white) police officers. When further violence is treathened against anyone who leaves the bus, the activist at the door can be heard saying “we are complying, we are complying”.
Activist report that those arrested were kept in police vans and cells without food and without access to a bathroom the rest of the day, In the evening many were released after being pressured to sign a settlement which fined them 150 euros each for breaking the protest ban. Those who refused the fine and chose to await court action were released just before midnight.
Facebook has not released any statement on why they removed the video.
