simplified self-care guide for psychotic people who can’t read long-ass blocks of text like me

  1. Cover the cameras, cover the windows, unfollow ppl who make you feel bad/paranoid/make fun of u just dont worry about being weird and put urself first.
  2. Seriously, unfriend, unfollow, block, just get rid of those who make you feel bad.
  3. Its ok to take a break from ppl. dont push yourself too hard. long-term stress can trigger an episode.
  4. When an episode is over and you regain insight, write down what happened, your feelings about it now and that you’re ok, in case it happens again and you need reassurance.
  5. Doctors aren’t always good. don’t be scared to change your doctor if they’re unhelpful/bad/rude/abusive.
  6. Its okay not to wash for weeks. wet wipes are your friend.
  7. Its ok not to brush your teeth for weeks. mouth-wash is your friend.
  8. Drink any fresh water within your reach. its best to get yourself a big bottle and just re-fill it once a day or so.
  9. Hoard some snacks in your room/wherever you spend most of the day in in case u cant move to the kitchen.
  10. If you want to check if something’s a hallucination, try recording it. beware you might hallucinate it in the recording too tho.

To anyone who is having problems discerning reality

One thing that has been helping me more than almost anything else is keeping what I like to call a reverse dream journal. It’s going to be a reality journal, and it doesn’t take much time out of your day to keep it up. Someone else recommended this to me about 8 months ago when I was having particular issues figuring out what was real and what wasn’t.

  • So to do this, you’re going to pick a method of documenting. I personally use individual sheets of paper for each day, and then file them away, but I know people who use texting, notes in their phone, tumblr, or a traditional journal.
  • Then, you’re going to want to try to take time throughout the day when you’re feeling like reality is clear (it only has to be a minute or two at a time for each entry) to write down what you’ve done. For instance, I’ll take a break every hour or so, or after any major thing that I’ve done, to just write down that I did the thing. It’s important to note that you don’t need to give a ton of detail, just “took my meds 11 am, ate lunch 1 pm,” etc.
  • So now that you have that, you keep the journal (whatever form it is) near where you are, especially when you’re sleeping. When you wake up in a panic, you can read the journal and remind yourself of what things actually happened.
  • You want to make sure to try to never write in it while you don’t feel like things are real. This journal needs to be something you can trust no matter what.
    • If you are having delusions or are dissociating and writing helps, keep this writing in a separate journal from your reality journal, the reality journal is there to remind you of what’s happening and what isn’t.
    • If you are having trouble figuring out what is real so that you can make entries, you can always go to someone you trust to help you record what you have done that day. Have them put the date, time, and their name there, so that you can ask them about it at a later time if you need to.

Gentle reminders for people with delusions:

  • Trauma caused by delusions is still trauma
  • Emotions you experience whilst in a delusion are still valid and should be taken seriously
  • In the moment or timeframe the delusion happens it is okay to be scared and to express your fears towards a person that knows about your condition and that you feel safe with
  • You're not crazy, your brain is just not like others and that's just the way it is. Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders appear everywhere in the world at around the same rate with the same percentage, so these are in fact chemical imbalances that could have affected anyone and it's not your fault.
  • When people tell you that they don't understand, they don't have to. The good ones will try to help you the way you need it. Someone who hasn't gone through this can't understand fully anyways, but can still be nice about it and ask you how you want to be handled.
  • Let nobody tell you that you can't do anything because of your condition
  • Let nobody tell you to do something you can't or don't want to do because of your condition (for example when it triggers you)
  • And lastly: I love you, I know damn well how hard it is and I'm proud of every single step you take ❤️

here’s an attempt at a clean vector version of @schizosupport‘s schizo-spectrum flag design (click through to see credit for other people who contributed to the design!) it doesn’t have quite as many swirlies bc even this much was really difficult to achieve in a vector program 😩 but i think the simplicity is probably a good thing, even if the original is honestly prettier

Decided to make a flag for Skhizeingender since it didn’t have one!

new term - Schizic

A term for when your gender/sexuality is "odd or unusual" and hard to comprehend to others, due to being on the schizo spectrum. It can also be added to another term, for instance, schizicgay.

While the colors may seem odd and a bit bright, I mostly chose them because, as a person on the schizo spectrum, I feel like bright and clashing colors are a very good descriptor for how I feel about my queer identity.

NOTE: This identity is only for people on the schizo spectrum/people who experience psychosis!
