Toast is baby but OH YEAH TOAST IS NOT CHEERFUL AND HAPPY. He’s a great embodiment of the channel in whole, tbh. It comes off as happy because everything depressing is said with a smile. buT HE’S NOT SMILING ON THE INSIDE.
Let’s review-
- The man abuses substances, specifically alcohol and drugs. This has become such a problem that he’s been dragging his coworkers with him in creating them. Seeing as most the drugs he uses seem to be centered around (macaroni) euphoria and (skittles) blacking out (not to mention the alcohol), he seems as if he’s trying to stop thinking.
- and hell I wonder why; his only childhood friend left is Ghost. We only talk about Mary because that is terrible, not only did she die in front of him, but he was likely the direct reason she died. That’s pretty bad. Stop Mary erasure she is important.
- But there’s also Roast, Boast, and Katrina. We need to stop forgetting them too, they were all Toast’s friends and their deaths hit him bad enough to the point where he doesn’t talk about them anymore.
- He, for the longest time, wasn’t in any kind of contact with his family. He’s distant from his brother, his father is dead, the only person he ever seems to talk to is his grandmother. Only thing I remember about his mom is she’s in jail and Toast visited her during the puppet arc.
- He’s probably high all the time. Notice the drastic change in behavior in some videos? May be Gavin, may be Toast sobering up and getting cranky.
- Ghost is his only friend. And he leaves all the fucking time. The puppet and retirement arcs are dedicated to Ghost and Toast being separated and each time look at the difference
- Ghost was taken by FORCE there’s a CHANCE they’ll FIND each other, and Toast is DETERMINED, he tracks his FLOATING BODY to GERMANY fighting through ZOMBIES to get to him when he becomes conscious, etc.
- Ghost LEAVES by CHOICE. He makes it VERY CLEAR he wants NOTHING to do with the team anymore. Toast gets DEPRESSED almost IMMEDIATELY. He stops showing up to work, he doesn’t leave the house, he’s began drinking again (something he seemed to stop doing awhile ago) He was HOPELESS.
- Toast is sad and dependent on Ghost because everyone else in his life has left him and he’s caught in a vicious cycle of not wanting to lean too hard on Ghost but also doesn’t want to make more friends because they might stop being friends or they’ll die and he’ll be heartbroken again.
Johnny Toast is SAD and we need to stop acting like he ISN’T and get him PROPER HELP. How the shit haven’t we caught more mental breakdowns from him???

- When Ghost gets really tired he just starts flopping on things. Toast sometimes carries him like a toddler would a cat because Ghost won’t do anything about it but groan.
- Everyone says Toast has the best hugs, Toast would argue that no, Ghost is best. No one else would know though because Toast is the only person Ghost accepts hugs from.
- When one of them is suffering from Dysphoria, the other is right there with them the whole time trying their hardest to cheer them up. Toast has a whole routine for it. Ghost
- Like the Puppet Arc, Ghost spent his entire arc wanting Toast to be there with him. He didn’t pursue it for the most part, but it’s what eventually drove him to come back. The nights were the worst.
- Toast is the perfect height to kiss Ghost square on the forehead without having to bend at all, and it’s now a comfort thing for them. Stressful situation? Forehead kiss. Long day? Forehead kiss.
- Sometimes Ghost will just stand in front of his boyfriend and wait, and Toast will pull him close and they’ll just stand there holding each other. This happened almost every day after the puppet arc.
- Toast is very up for cuddling. He loves the winter because when it gets cold, he and Ghost just sit in a blanket stack in front of the fire with hot chocolate.
- Ghost can’t read, but Toast has one of the voices he’s ever heard and he’ll take any excuse to hear him read. Sometimes when he’s feeling really upset and he just wants to hear Toast talk, he’ll just give him a random book and sit next to him. This is more or less how he read Harry Potter.
- Ghost was keeping Toast together for the whole of the body swap arc. Since Ghost and Sally are roughly the same size, the two shared binders for awhile
- Yeah… Life was pretty different during the body swap arc.
- Since it was Sally’s body both were pretty uncomfortable doing… Anything really.

I’m gonna add more because I suddenly thought of more
- Ghost went by male names since he was really little (Gregory, CBF probably got his trust doing that) and since before he and Toast met, so Toast didn’t know he was trans until he came out himself.
- Speaking of: Toast (at least in my head canons) moved back to Europe when Ghost was about eleven, and came out to his family as trans while he lived there. When Katrina died, he returned to America for the funeral and filled his friends in on his identity and of the such. That’s how they both found out the other were trans boys
- Sometimes Toast just has to look at Ghost to get super happy. Just, he looks at him and takes in that ‘hey, that’s my boyfriend and I love him very much and he loves me!’ and it’s an instant pick-me-up.
- Ghost feels similar sometimes, but it’s usually in the little moments. Like Toast’s reading to him and it just sinks in how happy he is to be there.
- Sometimes the two wander around the houses they do cases at and rate it on a scale of “I would live here forever” to “We should burn this place down once the ghost is gone”. They used the same chart when shopping for places to live in when they were first moving in with each other.
- Spooker thought they were just really good friends for the longest time and told Ghost he thought it was weird Toast was single. Ghost responds by walking over to Toast and kissing him on the cheek.
- Spooker still didn’t get it immediately.
