Best Practices on creating a web location section

  1. URLs used for web location sections need to regularly link to fresh content. The site needs to be updated regularly as we will only look for content less than 90 days old.
  2. URL used for web location sections need to be a page that links to multiple articles. For example, the “business” section of a news site. If the page does not serve this purpose, the section will be empty.
  3. URL used for web location sections must be in the Google search index. Visit Search Console and use the url inspection tool to see if there are issues with being in the search index.
    •  NOTE: Remove “noindex” tag from your header. It prevents Google from crawling your site and use the URL you submitted as a web location
  4. Enter a valid URL in the Publisher Center. URLs resolving in 404 cannot be used as web locations
  5. Enter a canonical URL in Publisher Center and avoid using redirects. A canonical URL will avoid empty results. Your content will still render AMP when available
  6. Language set in the Publisher Center as the publication’s primary language must match the content of the URLs used for web location for the content to be fetched.
  7. Select a country in the Publisher Center so that the location can be used to more accurately search for articles in the URL used for web locations.
