It's naïve to imagine that Trump needs two-sided street conflicts to give him an excuse to clamp down. In the absence of a pretext, he'll make up any lie he needs. Only our capacity to resist can limit what he can do. He wants us out of the streets.

The violence in DC shows the coming Biden era in microcosm. The far right isn't able to seize power yet, but with police protection, they are building a street army—while liberals urge people not to engage with them, ensuring that the victims will be Black, poor, and/or radical.

Anarchists in Belarus are participating in an uprising against a dictatorship in which thousands have been injured, arrested, imprisoned, or even killed. They desperately need your help to weather the repression: For background:

Votando ou não, lembre-se que a política que muda nossas vidas não é feita por políticos mas pessoas em ação. E o fascismo que está nas ruas não vai desaparecer após uma eleição. por isso dizemos ! __ Para baixar os posters: __

Former Trump appointee Sebastian Gorka, himself linked to the Hungarian Nazi-allied group Vitézi Rend, now speaks openly of "crushing" the Democrats while proclaiming that "antifa are fascists" and "BLM are racists"—à la 1984. Pay attention. This is a step towards civil war.

Indeed, Proud Boys spent the evening roving DC, attacking and stabbing people, at least one of whom is hospitalized in critical condition. Liberals who let fascists run the streets unopposed are partly responsible for leaving DC locals at their mercy.

Predictably, after a Trump rally in DC at which white supremacists showed off their strength and threatened locals, "BLM and Antifa" are trending as the same fascists try to present themselves as victims. Remember, this is the oldest trick in their book.

This is not say that the most strategic thing is always to react to whatever fascists do, meeting them in head-to-head conflict on whatever terrain they choose. Let's develop skills to defend our communities while seeking to outflank them, to dis-incentivize them from gathering.

It's important to understand that today's far-right gathering in DC is not just about the 2020 election—this is about fascists seeking to build a street army. Liberal calls to stay indoors so as not to "provoke" them amount to ceding the streets to them for the next four years.

Graffiti on a bus in Chile: "Stop outlawing so much—I'm not able to keep up with disobeying everything you forbid." From Chile to the US, voting has served as a pressure valve for discontent—but joyous disobedience exceeds every attempt to contain it.

We asked our correspondents in Spain, Italy, Slovenia, and Greece about the problems that social movements have confronted in Europe during the pandemic—from lockdowns targeting neighborhoods according to class to fascists attempting to hijack popular protests against austerity.

On the eve of a Biden presidency, we must ask whether we can trust any government to prioritize our lives over the economy—and how to respond when they use the pretext of protecting us from to intensify control. Against the virus and the state!

European governments have taken a hands-on approach to with a second wave of lockdowns. Yet unrest in Italy, Spain, and Slovenia shows that these measures are aimed at defending capitalism and expanding police control, not protecting human life.

Staying power is important. We fought Trump's predecessors 20 years ago—and we’ll be fighting their successors in 20 years. From one struggle to the next, we aim to build solidarity and a vision of collective liberation. Keep your heads up, friends.

We've survived a terrifying fight against an administration that aims to rule us by brute force. If we had not stood by each other so boldly, even worse things would have happened, and the Democrats would have let them happen. This is why we say it wasn’t Biden that beat Trump.

Liberal centrists always try to discredit direct action. They'll say anything they can to discourage us from acting for ourselves against our oppressors. But passivity will not keep us safe. Trump has taken everything we have not outright defended.

All summer, Biden supporters alleged that confrontational protests would bring Trump back into power, but the fact is that Trump's popularity plunged after the George Floyd rebellion began and only began to recover when it died down.
