Constructing Anarchisms: What It Is & What It Is Not

Survey courses are peculiar things, particularly when they address subjects of more than just passing interest. The construction of a survey always seems to involve at least some claim regarding the exemplary nature of the materials chosen. And if we were more certain about the character and extent of the anarchist tradition, we would expect a historical survey to take us, rather neatly, from milepost to milepost along the path of growing ideological clarity. But it’s hard to spend any time discussing history and theory with other anarchists—and I spend hours nearly every day—without recognizing that anarchy, anarchism and the anarchist tradition are all things that we struggle with, constantly, without necessarily making much headway in the process.

Interview on recent Protest in Poland

From Elephant in the Room

Abortion in Poland was legal during Communism and became illegal (with a few exceptions) after the political shift to democracy. Since then, feminists have been active in resisting the abortion law but with little success in gaining public support or influencing legislation.

Corrosive Consciousness on Immediatism Podcast

Enjoy the full text of Bellamy Fitzpatrick's book, Corrosive Consciousness, from Enemy Combatant Publications, now in podcast format. Primarily a critique of the more prominent voices and ideas in anarcho-primitivism, Bellamy's book also provides a model by which we can examine our own ideas and those of others. Bellamy's unique take on egoism and invitation to be cynical in our anarchism are welcome additions to the genre. Each thirty minute episode begins with a five minute intro to support your listening experience. Corrosive Consciousness is available from LittleBlackCart.com.

Collection of essential items for refugees

via Athens Indymedia

Anarchist Collectivity Masovka – Announcement for the collection of the essentials for the insurgent refugees of Lesbos. Sharing goods in Victoria square.

Another announcement of our collectivity was completed with success. We want to thank all the comrades that corresponded to our invitation, bringing essentials –in our pre-arranged appointment- from their lag for the trapped and insurgent refugees of Mytilene. It is impossible to express our gratitude with just a thankful text but at this point, this is the only way.In the intervening period between our invitation and the collection of the essentials, the events unfolded as far as the refugees were concerned, were rapid. The state under the guise of Covid-19 took care to isolate completely the refugees from the society and not even one from our comrades in Mytilene (the essential would be delivered to our comrades from the conquest of Mpinio), as they themselves informed us, has any kind of access or communication with the refugees.

Armed Struggle

from Anathema Vol 6 Issue 7 via AMW

In that sense, just as “anarchists must say what only anarchists can say,” it does us no favors to settle for doing what others are already doing – particularly if it’s neither immediately effective nor building capacity. Not that we are likely to normalize any behavior, either, but we can expand the imaginary as to what is possible. This is not a suggestion to simply grow our capacity for violence or join some sort of gun-worship culture, either, but to recognize arms as another tool among many that an increasing number of us are holding. We may incorporate arms as it seems feasible and helpful towards goals of rupture and insurrection, as well as expanding the physical and psychological capacities of our attacks.

Workshop: Constructing Anarchisms

from Libertarian Labybrinth

This online workshop combines elements of a traditionally structured survey course and a vehicle for self-study. In some ways, it will resemble a year’s worth of office hours as much as a yearlong seminar. The goal is to make the basic experience—an extended practical crash-course in thinking about anarchist theory and history—available to as many potential participants as possible. It has been constructed with busy people in mind and should be able to carry on despite some ebb and flow in participation

How the State Enables Ecocide

from Center for a Stateless Society

In the first year of constant quarantine, rocked by worldwide social unrest, extreme tropical weather, and widespread government ineptitude, the complete inability and unwillingness of the ruling classes to make any substantive changes is clear. There will not be any relief and there is no reckoning. Commoditizing living animals has created the perfect conditions for zoonotic diseases to mutate and spread, but harm reduction measures to deal with the pandemic have obfuscated this risk, instead touting the animal agriculture industry as a “vital industry” necessary to the economic interests of the capitalist class. Forget sacrificing your ethics, the time has come to put yourself on the altar and pray you make the perfect gift to the market — or at least that shell of a market reflected in financial exchanges.
